(Arcadia) – Eric Trask fired a complete game shutout to lead Arcadia to a 1-0 win over Crescenta Valley Friday night in a key Pacific League contest before a packed house at Giambrone Field.
Trask fanned nine and allowed just two hits while going the distance. Arcadia remained undefeated in the league improving to 6-0. The Apaches are 15-3 overall. CV fell to 5-1 in league and 13-5 on the season.
Trask won the duel versus CV’s Kyle Murray, striking out CV batters for the third out five innings in a row. Trask also went 2 for 3 at bat, including an eventual game winning RBI hit in the bottom of the sixth for Arcadia as he squeezed in Brandon Benson from third.
Benson safely led that inning off after taking advantage of a mishandled third strike before setting himself up in prime position at third base thanks to a botched pickoff attempt moments later.
Murray, taking the loss, pumped strikeouts in all six Apache tours to the plate and accrued 10 Ks with 4 hits and one (unearned) run for the Falcons.
Troy Mulcahey, ending the night 1 for 3 at bat for CV, including a two out shot to the right field corner for a standup double in the opening stanza, appeared to have rocked a huge double for CV to start the seventh, but was declared out at the behest of the officials who stated that he missed first base. The call was vigorously protested to no avail. Two CV coaches and a fan were ejected from the game.
Trask wasted no time as his ensuing pitch went for a 4-3 play by David Dominguez to Troy Resch, before winning a nine pitch battle against CV’s Troy Prasertsit via strikeout to win it for the Apaches.
