Game Night: Week Five

Blake Heyworth and Monrovia head to St. Francis

All games are at 7:00 pm unless otherwise indicated

Thursday 9/27

Montview League

Sierra Vista (3-1) at Gladstone (4-0) at Citrus College

Last Year: Sierra Vista 21-20

Gladstone is on a roll. The offense has been lighting it up and now the defense is hitting hard. Sierra Vista might stay close for a half. Then the Gladiators put it away.

Gladstone 34 Sierra Vista 13

Pacific League

Glendale (1-3) at Burroughs (0-4)

Last Year: Burroughs 70-34

Both teams need a win. Burroughs needs it more. Who could have predicted the Indians would still be searching for their first win in week five. Glendale’s defense is getting torched. Burroughs gets its first.

Burroughs 24 Glendale 14

Friday 9/28

Hacienda League

Los Altos (3-2) at  West Covina (3-2)

Last Year: West Covina 42-24

Last week’s big loss was disturbing for Los Altos. That 3-0 record seems like years ago. West Covina is a little banged up but the Bulldogs will have more than enough here. West Co wins big.

West Covina 35 Los Altos 14

Pacific League

Arcadia (1-3) at Burbank (2-2)

Last Year: Arcadia 38-7

Arcadia got its first win last week over Burroughs. Burbank has two losses but both were to tough teams. Last week the Bulldogs had a field day in a rout of Hoover. In this year’s Pacific, Burbank is definitely the team to watch. Burbank comes out on top.

Burbank 24 Arcadia 13

Suburban League

La Mirada (4-1) at Bellflower (2-2)

Last Year: Bellflower 21-7

La Mirada slipped on this one last year. An up and coming Bellflower team caught the Mats of guard. Although the Buccaneers have had a tough schedule, they’ve been up and down. They’ll have a hard time dealing with all of the Matadores weapons. La Mirada gets the W.

La Mirada 28 Bellflower 17

Non League

Bell Gardens (3-1) at El Monte (2-2)

Interesting game for both teams. Neither team wants to start league play next week with a loss. Both teams have their eyes set on league titles. Can El Monte’s defense stop Bell Gardens? Although BG has given up a lot of points also. Expect the scoreboard operator to keep busy. There will be a ton of touchdowns. Bell Gardens is the last team standing.

Bell Gardens 38 El Monte 35

La Canada (1-3) at Arroyo (2-2)

Last Year: Arroyo 23-21

The Knights still haven’t been playing the way they would like to. But the offense did get started last week and hung a 40 on the board. Now the defense needs to follow suit. La Canada really hasn’t played well since an opening game win over Alhambra. Arroyo has enough.

Arroyo 27 La Canada 17

Rosemead (2-2) at Temple City (1-3)

Last Year: Rosemead 35-9

Temple City’s win over Hoover was a nice way to go into Bye week. The Rams have had two weeks to rest, get healthy and enjoy the fruits of their first victory. But then again, it was Hoover. Now the fun starts with Rosemead.

The Panthers got an impressive win last week over San Gabriel regardless of what the Matador honks say. Anytime you hold the Mats to six it’s a big deal. And let the comments continue! Anyway, Rosemead will win this one. They’ll pound the ball and then pound it some more. So will Temple City which should have everybody home by 9:15. But then again the officials will keep you there until 10:30.

Rosemead 17 Temple City 10

San Marino (4-0) at South El Monte (2-2)

San Marino is on fire. The Titans have outscored their last two opponents 108-0. The Eagles on the other hand have been up and down. They knocked off Maranatha last week but the offense, without starting quarterback Fernando Ramirez, has struggled in losses to Northview and Montebello. Right now the Titans have a decided advantage.

San Marino 31 South El Monte 14

Monrovia (2-2) at St. Francis (3-1)

Monrovia is looking to bounce back after a tough loss to South Hills last week. The Wildcats need to get of to a fast start. St. Francis has the home field advantage and only a loss to La Mirada prevents the Golden Knights from a perfect record. Close game, but St. Francis wins it late.

St. Francis 27 Monrovia 24
