The Lancers had no trouble scoring early and often on the Tigers, taking a 21-0 lead before the Tigers got on the board with a 22-yard field goal by Adrian Becerra midway through the second. The Lancers would then score three more touchdowns sending the game into the half up, 42-3.  The Lancers scored the next 31 points unanswered, setting up the end of the game on a running clock.

La Puente 30, Workman 20
PIONEER
El Segundo 24, South Torrance 7

The end of the regular season was doubly rewarding for the Eagles (6-4, 4-1) who not only knocked off the Spartans (4-6, 1-4) but also picked up a forfeit win over Compton Centennial, Friday night at South Torrance’s Spartan Stadium.

Running back Austin Brasher led the Eagles’ ground attack with 66 yards on 17 carries, scoring two touchdowns as the Eagles unleashed a rushing attack that took pressure off the Eagles’ passing attack, the offensive mainstay. Quarterback Lars Nootbaar threw 14 of 27 passes for 159 yards.

The win, combined with Torrance’s shut out loss, put the Eagles in second place in the Pioneer league’s final standings, earning one of the league’s three automatic playoff bids.
North Torrance 54, Torrance 0

Six touchdowns from quarterback Jorge Hernandez  led the Saxons (8-2, 5-0) to a shut out victory over the Tartars (5-5, 3-2) to claim the Pioneer League title outright for the first time since 2008, Friday night at Torrance High’s Zamperini Stadium.

Hernandez missed only 10 of his 32 pass attempts for 355 yards and his six scoring passes, he was intercepted twice in the win. Devante Jenkins caught seven of those passes for 98 yards, five of those catches were touchdowns. Michael Jurado, the Saxons’ leading receiver, was double teamed in the game and only caught four passes for 13 yards, but pulled in the other scoring pass from Hernandez.

The loss not only prevented the Tartars from a share of the Pioneer league, but dropped them to third place in the final regular season standing, however they did lock up a playoff spot in next week’s Northwest Division playoffs.
