Golden Valley 68, Village Christian 51
Mariah Madison torched the basket during the second quarter and outscored Village Christian 13-9 on her own before finishing with 25 points to lead Golden Valley, who also got an 18 point boost from Caitlyn Zindroski as it topped Village Christian.
The Crusaders and Grizzlies drew even after one stanza at 17-all, but the Grizzlies, ignited by Madison’s rampage, roared ahead to the end, and dominated the next two quarters by a combined 43-19 score.
Village did have three players finish in double figures, led by Sam Pyros with 14. Hhala Aboul-Hosn and Rachel Temple added 10 apiece.
La Salle 56, FSHA (Flintridge Sacred Heart) 36
Brianna Rodriguez flared from both post and perimeter in manufacturing 10 first half points, and Caroline Knop added 10 as well for La Salle, who steadily cruised by FSHA in this win.
Sierra Bononi and Kandyce Smith were busy on both boards clogging up the key and taking down caroms. The duo scored nine points apiece.Dana Budzyn hit a pair of threes in the second quarter and led the Tologs with 11 points.
Arcadia 45, Pasadena Poly 42
Neither team appeared like they were willing to budge as Poly maintained a slim one-point lead in the second and third frames, but Arcadia fueled a decent run inside the fourth quarter and hung on to win after surviving a close call at the end as a three-attempt by Kiki Yang skidded off the top. She led Poly, and all scorers, with 21 points.
Caira Benton gave the Apaches a big rebounding lift as usual and cranked out a hard-fought eight points, including two and-one conversions. Arcadia was led in scoring by Melody Chang hauling in 16 points and Julie Aguiree posting up for another 14.
Royal 74, Hart 61
Consistent free-throw shooting and rebounding were the key factors Royal carried itself upon throughout to ensure victory against a physical and sharpshooting Hart team. The Lady Indians had ten three-pointers in the game, and again were led by Breze Kimble, this time a starter, with 21 points and four bombs. Julia White downed another three times from the perimeter towards her 15 points, and Kianna Landon put in all her eight in the fourth quarter.
Four Lady Highlanders checked out with double figures, and were led by Sabrina Wiseman (11 for 12 on free throws) with 21 points. Brooke Zamora added 16; Brianna Reser floated down 14, and Mia Sasaki buried four treys (three in the fourth) to close the show with 12 points. Royal finished 23 for 29 from the charity stripe.
Moorpark 55, La Canada 51
La Canada maintained the advantage for most of the game and led by as much as 10 early in the third stanza but could not hold off a fleeting surge from Moorpark, who wrangled command away by a key 16-2 run in that frame before holding on to prevail.
Kira Cosworth tallied 11 of her 16 points in the first half, and another three teammates had 10 or more. Paige Peel (12), Britney Dixon-Bell (double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds), and Paige Sullivan (10) – all shared in the dividends.
Courtney Chen spread 21 points across the four to lead the Spartans and Keilee Bessho rebounded and shot decently from the perimeter to come through with 13.
