Mid Valley Sports caught up with South Hills alum Anthony Hernandez who fights out of Fight Academy in Pasadena.
Mid Valley Sports: How you doing?
Anthony Hernandez: Doing good, thanks.
MVS: So how is training going?
AH: Training is going well, I’m picking up new things everyday and adding to my game. No major injuries so everything is cool.
MVS: What does a day of training look like for you?
AH: I try and wake up around 7:00 am, get my strength and conditioning in, then around 10:00 am I’ll head over to a fight gym depending on the day and train until about 1:00 pm. After that I’ll head home for recovery, eat and play video games untill my next session at 5:30. I will finish my day of training around 7:30 pm. The next day I repeat.
MVS: What’s your diet while getting ready for a fight?
AH: My diet consist of oatmeal, chicken breast, brown rice and green veggie smoothies and lots of water.
MVS: Favorite cheat food?
AH: My favorite cheat food would have to be yogurtland and nutella with pretzels. Oh and In ‘n Out burgers.
MVS: I heard about your pro debut. When did that take place?
AH: It was July 13th in Pomona for Respect in the Cage promotions.
MVS: Who are some of your favorite past and present fighters?
AH: My favorite fighters are the ones that entertain. I’m a Roy Jones Jr. fan, Anderson Silva of course, Prince Naseem Amed and Jon Jones
MVS: Does your family back you with your fighting career?
AH: My family are still kinda iffy about the whole fighting thing. My dad and brothers enjoy it but my mom hates it.
MVS: What have been some of your accomplishments in CAMO (amateur MMA)?
AH: I ended my amateur career 7-1 record for CAMO. I am the PURE MMA middleweight champion and achieved a ranking of #2 in the state of California at 185-pounds.
MVS: Is there anyone out there, when you get enough experience, that you would love to fight?
AH: I would love to fight the best 170lbs locally, then test myself with the best in the world.
MVS: Anyone out there you want to give a shout out to?
