Mid Valley Sports caught up with South Hills alum Anthony Hernandez who fights out of Fight Academy in Pasadena.

Mid Valley Sports: How you doing?

Anthony Hernandez: Doing good, thanks.

MVS: So how is training going?

AH: Training is going well, I’m picking up new things everyday and adding to my game. No major injuries so everything is cool.

MVS: What does a day of training look like for you?

AH: I try and wake up around 7:00 am, get my strength and conditioning in, then around 10:00 am I’ll head over to a fight gym depending on the day and train until about 1:00 pm. After that I’ll head home for recovery, eat and play video games untill my next session at 5:30. I will finish my day of training around 7:30 pm. The next day I repeat.

MVS: What’s your diet while getting ready for a fight?

AH: My diet consist of oatmeal, chicken breast, brown rice and green veggie smoothies and lots of water.

MVS: Favorite cheat food?

AH: My favorite cheat food would have to be yogurtland and nutella with pretzels. Oh and In ‘n Out burgers.

MVS: I heard about your pro debut. When did that take place?

AH: It was July 13th in Pomona for Respect in the Cage promotions.

MVS: Who are some of your favorite past and present fighters?

AH: My favorite fighters are the ones that entertain. I’m a Roy Jones Jr. fan, Anderson Silva of course, Prince Naseem Amed and Jon Jones

MVS: Does your family back you with your fighting career?

AH: My family are still kinda iffy about the whole fighting thing. My dad and brothers enjoy it but my mom hates it.

MVS: What have been some of your accomplishments in CAMO (amateur MMA)?

AH: I ended my amateur career 7-1 record for CAMO. I am the PURE MMA middleweight champion and achieved a ranking of #2 in the state of California at 185-pounds.

MVS: Is there anyone out there, when you get enough experience, that you would love to fight?

AH: I would love to fight the best 170lbs locally, then test myself with the best in the world.

MVS: Anyone out there you want to give a shout out to?

AH: I want give a shout out to Savant Young and my Fight Academy family, Joseph del Real with Strikers Inc. my Wild Card Boxing peeps, and 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu.

MVS: Best of luck to you on your pro debut brother.
