(West Covina) – West Covina hosted Arcadia, Bassett, Mt. View, Glendora and Damien Tuesday in a six way toss. The Bulldogs have two quarterbacks they’re looking at right now in Henry Tarin and Drew Gomez and another one who has transferred in. “Maybe we’ll just the throw the ball all the time and completely abandon the run,” West Covina HC Mike Maggiore said with a laugh.
Arcadia is looking forward to the return of QB Joey Harmon, who missed all of last season with an ACL injury. “He’s really coming along. He’s been throwing it well all summer,” said Arcadia assistant Eric Elias.
Bassett OC Jerry Urias is excited about what the Olympians can bring this year. “We only had five seniors last year so everybody is a year older and more experienced. We have to get the mindset of winning, to expect to win,” Urias said. “Last year we were in so many close games but we couldn’t finish in the end. This year we should be able to do that.”
Bassett’s offensive hopes rest on returning quarterback Nicolas Colmenero and sophomore running back Ricky Mejia.
As for Mt. View, Viking HC Victor Ambruso did clear up one thing. “The front runner at quarterback is Christian Cervantes. He’s the guy,” Ambruso said.
