(Glendora) The Northview Vikings improved to 2-0 on the season with a decisive 45-7 win on the road Thursday night against the Gladstone Gladiators at Citrus College.
It was a stellar performance by the Northview defense led by Jared Brito who along with Maximiliano Flores spent a lot of time the the Gladiator backfield disrupting the young Gladstone offense.
*** Northview scored on thier first possesion when Christeon Blackmon scored on a 27-yard run. The Vikings went for two an converted on a pass from Peter VanDerEb to Bryan Salinas.
*** Salinas scored a touchdown of his own on a 22-yard run to give Northview a 14-0 lead with 3:42 left in the first quarter.
*** Brito set up the Vikings fourth score of the first half when he picked of an attempted Gladstone screen pass with one hand at the Gladiator 28 yard line.
*** Damien Lavin scored two times on the evening. The second came on a five yard run to cap a six play 60-yard drive mid was through the third period.
*** Nicholas Ybarra blocked a Gladstone punt that was recovered at the Gladiator 19 to set up Northview’s final touchdown of the evening. Ybarra also score a touchdown earlier in the contest.
*** Blackmon scored his second touchdown of the evening on a one yard run to put the Vikings up 45-0 with 1:20 left to play in the third quarter.
*** Northview gave up its first points of the year on an 11-yard run by Gladstone’s Israel Vega. The score was set up when Kentarri Curri muffed at punt at his own 19.
*** Coach Marcel Perez and his staff showed a lot of class taking a knee at the Gladstone 10-yard line to end the game.
*** Northview will be on the road again next week when they travel south to take on the Rowland Raiders.
*** Citos Marinez and the Gladiators will try and regroup and get ready for a visit from the Baldwin Park Braves next Friday night at Citrus College.
