Game Night – Week Six Southeast Division

All game times are 7: 00 PM unless otherwise indicated.

Thursday October 16

Pasadena (3-2, 2-0) @ Burroughs (3-2, 2-0)

Last year: Burroughs 20-2

Bulldogs showed some guts last week winning in Arcadia. Aaron Simpson is a player to watch for Pasadena and Cleo Bates is real fast. They just need to limit their mistakes.

Indians ran wild against Hoover last week in a lopsided victory. Dalton Williams is the real deal and Lucas Yanez is a leader plain and simple.

Burroughs will have a much tougher time this go-around against Pasadena as much is at stake for both teams. Williams will get his yards, but Yanez will have to throw the ball for them to be successful. The Bulldogs will need to limit their fumbles and muffed punts if they want to keep it close.

Burroughs 21 Pasadena 14

Friday October 17

Alhambra (3-1) @ Schurr (3-1-1)

Last Year: Schurr 38-24

It is possible that the eventual winner of this game will be the Almont League champ.

Moors come into the game riding a three-game winning streak Alhambra is pass heavy this season with Darrin Cazarin finding Joseph Becerra and Mitchell Crockum for 35 of his 53 receptions.

Spartans are relying on their defense to hold teams off the board as they have given up 9 points per game. Aaron Cantu has been as advertised as a leader on offense.

Both teams come into the game with three-game unbeaten streaks. This game will come down to the Moors running game (or lack of one) against a tough defense.

Schurr 35-14

Montebello (3-2) @ Bell Gardens (4-1)

Last Year: 45-20

After a bye week, Oilers come into the game looking to upset the Lancers. Two-headed attack of Joseph Marrone and Eric Espinosa on the ground might cause problems for Bell Gardens early.

Lancers need to get their ground game going early and not have Josh Adame throw the ball much. Steve Ibarra needs to find holes in the Montebello defense when running the ball.

If the Oilers come out flying they can make life miserable for Bell Gardens. That said, low scoring game maybe what happens in this game.

Bell Gardens 13-7

San Gabriel (2-3) @ Keppel (1-4)

Last Year: San Gabriel 35-0

Matadors catch a break playing the Aztecs this week. Quarterback Isaac Valdez is a true leader, but needs some help from his line to be effective. Fabian Amaro should be able to run wild against Keppel.

What a difference a year makes at Keppel. Last season, the Aztecs were getting beaten up by every team they faced. This season, Keppel has a win and hasn’t been blown out of any games.

Should there be any doubt that the Matadors win this one. Question is by how much?

San Gabriel 28-7

La Serna (1-4) @ Santa Fe (4-1)

Last Year: Santa Fe 21-7

What a difference a year makes for the Lancers. Looking for their first legitimate win of the season, they must face a high powered offense that is firing on all cylinders.

Chiefs are rolling and the wins against Bonita and San Clemente are noteworthy and confidence builders. Alex Flores is a double-barrel weapon with his arm or feet.

Long night for La Serna.

Santa Fe 42-3

Pioneer (2-3) @ El Rancho (3-2)

Last Year: Pioneer 29-26

Titans come into the game with a three-game winning streak in the series. All three games have been decided by three point margins.

The Dons played one of their toughest opponents in St Francis last week. Their win against West Covina has proved to be eye-opening. Pernell Lone and Art Castro will carry the ball quite a bit.

Although Pioneer has a two-game win streak, El Rancho should be able to come away with the win.

El Rancho 27-24

Whittier (3-2) @ California (2-2-1)

Last Year: California 18-12

Cardinals were brought down to earth as they were crushed by Schurr. Condors got a huge win at Villa Park to have momentum on their side heading into league play.

Whittier relies on Alex Gonzalez and Bryan Carrillo on the ground. As a group the Cardinals are close to 200 yards a game rushing.

Condors found away to win last week with only 187 yards of total offense against previously unbeaten Spartans. Terris Jones was held in check with just 41 yards.

The defense is the key in the game. Cal is 2-0-1 since dropping their first-two games.

California 20-6

Bonita (1-4) @ Charter Oak (5-1)

Last Year: Charter Oak 48-10

Chargers have won three-games straight dating back to the 2006 season.

Bearcats are in trouble. Casey Horine does the little things to win games, but isn’t the quarterback. Garrett Pendleton needs to find a rhythm if Bonita is going to find success.

Charter Oak’s only blemish came when they lost to Rancho Cucamonga, three weeks ago. Adam Muema should be healthy again and AJ Powell is going to cause too many problems for the Bearcats offense.

Charter Oak 45-0

Los Altos (2-3) @ Wilson (3-2)

Last Year: Los Altos 38-14

Conquerors got a much needed win last week against La Serna. Wildcats blew a large lead in a loss to Covina.

Both coaches know how important it is to start with a win in league, it is also bragging rights for the kids of Hacienda Heights. Wilson appears to be in better form, even with the loss last week. Los Altos should have blown out the Lancers and allowed them to hang around all game.

Wilson 21-20

Arcadia (1-3-1, 1-1) @ Muir (0-5, 0-2)

Last Year: Muir 54-0

All-Time: Muir 26-13

This is a must-win for both clubs if they want to make the playoffs.

The Apaches have a bruising running back in Rodney Arnett, who has been one tough customer on defenses. They desperately need the leadership of injured quarterback Garrett Tuck.

Mustangs have given up leads in both Pacific league games, which have resulted in losses. If they play a full 48 minutes

Muir 42-10

Burbank (4-1, 2-0) @ Glendale (1-4, 0-2)

Last Year: Burbank 37-14

Bulldogs showed lots of poise in win against Muir last Friday night. Nitros are headed in the wrong direction, losing two straight after gutsy win over South Pasadena.

Burbank 35-0

Hoover (1-4, 0-2) @ Crescenta Valley (3-2, 1-1)

Last Year: 47-7

Falcons shouldn’t have much of a problem with Tornadoes.

Crescenta Valley 31-0

Rowland (5-0) @ Walnut (4-0)

Last Year: 49-21

Raiders continue to roll in impressive fashion as they have scored over 40 points the last four games. Mustangs show signs of being a player in the San Antonio this year, but face a tough test against a juggernaut offense.

Michael Ball leads Rowland on offense and defense. Role players Josh Onovughe, Leonardo Freeman and Steven David make them awful scary to defend against.

Walnut must keep the Raiders offense off the field in order to win. Milan King will need to run effectively for them to keep possession of the ball.

Rowland 28-21

West Covina (3-3) @ South Hills (3-2)

Last Year: West Covina 14-10

Bulldogs are rolling after starting the season 0-3 to some very good teams. Huskies appear to have finally settled on quarterback Jacob Shirley.

West Covina will rely on Ricky Johnson and Jesse Ili to run the ball often. Give George Johnson manageable yardage to throw on third down if you need him to.

South Hills will set the pass up with Geoffrey Vaughns runs. Shirley appears to have won the quarterback job. Shirley will have Ify Umodu and Vaughns as big play receivers.

Game will come down to turnovers and penalties. If the Bulldogs can keep the Huskies offense on the bench, it will be their game to win.

West Covina 28-27
