(Pomona) The Los Altos Conquerors scored first but the Diamond Ranch Panthers scored more including 16 unanswered in the second half to pull away to a 30-13 win Friday night on the campus of Diamond Ranch High School.

The Panthers (5-1, 2-0)  were coming off a big Hacienda League win over West Covina hoping to build on that win while the Conquerors we returning to action after a week off. Being off the week before league play is good to get guys healthy but for Los Altos, a little bit of rust set in and it took its toll.

*** Estuardo Marcos got the Conquerors on the board first with 3:51 left in the first on a three yard run and capped a four play, 14-yard drive that was set up by a Daniel Valdez interception of Panther Xavier Beltran.

*** Beltran made up for the earlier miscue by marching his team 40-yards on four plays hooking up with Mateo Rodarte on a 30-yard catch and run.

*** Los Altos regained the lead on a 35-yard field goal by Manny Medina after an eight play drive stalled at the Diamond Ranch 18.

*** Beltran struck again with :34 seconds remaining in the first half when he found Daniel Garcia on a 18-yard score.

*** Medina capped the first have scoring booting through a 23-yard field goal to bring the Conquerors to within one at 14-13.

*** The Panther defense pitched a shut-out in the second half and limited the Los Altos offense to a total of 138 total yards.

*** Los Alt0s’ Marcos was mostly held in check on the night gaining only 42-yards on 18 carries.

*** Diamond ranch extended their lead to 11 on a three yard run by Allen Salguero.

*** Christian Zambrano, Kammy Delp and Josh Buchholz made life miserable for Cristian Hacegaba who completed only six passes for 41-yards.

*** Of the seven passes Beltran completed on the night, three were for touchdowns.

*** It doesn’t get any easier next week when Los Altos host a very solid Diamond Bar squad. Diamond Ranch will take the week off and prepare for their own contest with the Brahmas on October 18.
