(Downey)- The Burbank Bulldogs scored first, next, and often, as they defeated the Santa Fe Chiefs, 42-0, in CIF Southeast Division second round action Friday evening at DowneyHigh School.
The Bulldogs scored on their first possession of the game, and didn’t look back. Joseph Pendleton ran for scores of 1 and 2 yards, while running back Tony Toledo added two rushing scores of his own, from 2 and 4 yards respectively.
Quarterback Ryan Meredith also got into the scoring column by rushing for one touchdown (1 yard) and passing for a second…a 9-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Oharjee Brown.
The evening was not pleasant for Santa Fe, as the Chiefs never got on track. Penalties and dropped passes continually stalled their attempts to gain momentum.
***Burbank amassed 386 yards of total offense.
***Santa Fe- 125 yards of total offense.
***Burbank had 30 yards in penalties, as compared to 80 for Santa Fe.
***The halftime score was Burbank 28- Santa Fe 0.
***Burbank DB Aki Arlington, a Sophomore who was playing in his first varsity game, intercepted a pass from Santa Fe QB Christian Lara.
***The game included a running clock in the fourth quarter.
***Burbank advances to the CIF Semi- Finals for the first time in 85 years.
***Burbank goes to La Serna next Friday for a spot in the CIF finals.
