Kick it!

To reinforce what you may already know…

…the East-West Hall of Fame game is still on and set to play Friday, May 16th at West Covina High School. The kick-off is still set for 7:PM…This comes straight from long time game organizer Leon Ward.

I do like the discussion of moving this game to January in 2015…great idea that should have happened a long time ago.

Another good idea is to follow Tim Peterson, Duane Barker, and myself on Twitter during the NFL Draft. If you like snarky, petty, and psychotic criticism…then you got to hang with us on Twitter at 5:PM on Thursday night.

Bad idea that more than one coach floated to me last night is the CIF football divisions returning to a parity priority with no consideration regarding location. I’m not saying this has happened, I’m saying I’ve been told it’s part of the discussion.

The new divisions would be similar to how its done with basketball…Example: 1A, 1AA, etc. etc.

It seems people like the level of parity achieved in the current division alignments of the Southeast and Mid-Valley division, but the concept of returning to the old format would be to accommodate other areas where there seems to be little parity.

Note to Mid-Valley/Southeast/Northwest AD’s: You better protect what you got. I don’t think anyone wants to revisit the days of Monrovia traveling up to Paso Robles to play a CIF final.

If you cannot see the benefit of Norwalk playing La Serna in the finals, or Monrovia playing San Dimas, or San Gabriel playing Monrovia, or Azusa playing San Dimas in the semis…then you deserve to take the ride up to Lompoc and Santa Ynez.

Let’s be honest, I’ll say it here again, basketball suffers because of the playoff format. Football being a legacy sport draws in area folks, of all ages, to see area teams play each other. But no one, except for those closely involved, gives a rat’s kiester about Baldwin Park playing a team in cattle country. Interest will suffer, attendance will suffer, don’t do it.

What should be done with basketball and baseball division playoff structure is getting them to take on a more regional approach. The team that is in your league, should be the team that is in your playoff division.

Also what determines parity? Don’t say it’s enrollment, because enrollment does not guarantee parity. Demographics and administrative stability have a whole lot more to do with the success of an athletic program.

I understand the desire to make sure all sports are treated equally…so spare me the argument…but the truth is…NOT ALL SPORTS ARE EQUAL…It’s a fact.

Note to St.Louis/Los Angeles Rams: Do not take Johnny Manziel! …If you want a quarterback take Teddy Bridgewater, he’ll be cheaper in the second round…And if he’s not there, then you’ve got no problem. Get the tackle, get the safety, or go bold and take the linebacker out of Buffalo!

I do miss Al Davis when it comes to draft day…Kind of hoping Oakland will honor his legacy by using the fifth overall pick on a punter or Usain Bolt.

Regards:

In regards to playoff hockey: I know male NHL fans don’t shave their faces during the post-season, but do female NHL fans shave their legs come playoff time?

In regards to an NFL team drafting Michael Sam: Is there an upside?

In regards to the NBA: Why would anybody want to be a head coach in that league?

In regards to Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman: He inks a new deal worth 57.4-million…40-million is guaranteed. That is a lot of lechuga.

In regards to “Survivor”: Tasha or Spencer? You make the call, but it’s one or the other.

The Dude abides…
