(Bell Gardens)- It’s not pretty, it’s not slick, but the Burbank Bulldogs are 2-0 after stopping a two-point conversion attempt and defeating the Bell Gardens Lancers, 15-14, on Friday night.

The win was sweet but the injury wasn’t as the injury bug bit again. Last week the Bulldogs lost Ryan Meredith to an anke injury which kept him out of the game. Friday night running back James Williams went down with a right knee injury on the opening kick off and never returned. His status is pending.

Sophomore quarterback Guy Gibbs filled in for Meredith and tossed a touchdown pass to to Dorian Householder. Tony Toledo picked up 78 yards on 14 carries and also scored on a one-yard run to give Burbank a 6-0 lead. Gibbs hit Householder for a two point conversion to make it 8-0.

Burbank never trailed in the contest.

Bell Gardens scored on a 95-yard TD pass from Jordan Cardenas to Juan Carranza to tie it at eight. After Householder’s TD reception, the Lancers trimmed it to 15-14 with 50 seconds left. BG went for two and the win but the Burbank defnse stood tall and made the stop.

Burbank improved to 2-0 while for the Lancers it was an opening game loss.
