(La Mirada)- The La Mirada Matadores rode a hot hand, or in this case, a hot arm, to victory as they beat the visiting Charter Oak Chargers, 48-28, Friday night at La Mirada High School.
The Matadores were let by senior quarterback Christian Lara, who completed 12 of 15 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns. Lara threw scoring passes to senior Tony Brown (75-yards), senior Robert Caggiano (56-yards), and junior Mario Hernandez (18-yards). The Matadores were also dangerous on the ground, scoring on runs of 10, 21, and 21 yards by running Backs Sei-j Lauago, Nick Carrasco, and Chad Wilson, respectively. Lauago also added a 95-yard kickoff return for a score.
Charter Oak also demonstrated proficiency in the air. Junior quarterback Kamden Brown completed 19 of 35 attempted passes, for 271 yards and four touchdowns. Brown found Dareon Nash for a 35-yard score, Brian Casteel for a 20-yard strike, and connected with Joseph Garcia for another 20 yard touchdown. The final points producing pass was caught by Zion Echols. The balance of the scoring for the Chargers was provided by kicker Jaren Surdo, who added a 38-yard field goal and point after.
