1. Dan Haren threw seven strong innings to lead the Dodgers to a 4-0 shutout of the Padres Wednesday night. Haren is 13-10 on the year.

2. Former San Diego Chargers quarterback Ryan Leaf was sentenced to five years in prison for violating terms of his probation but he won’t serve any additional time behind bars under an agreement with prosecutors.

3. The Angels beat Texas 8-1 to extend their lead over Oakland to nine games in the AL West.

4. Arroyo has allowed 88 points in two games.

5. USC #9, UCLA #12 in AP Poll. Florida State is #1.

6. St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long is out eight to ten weeks with a left ankle injury.

7. Arcadia at Monrovia Friday night. Last Year: Monrovia 49 Arcadia 7.

8. Monrovia’s Kameron Johnson has 18 carries in two games. Quarterback Asaph Zamora has 41 pass attempts.

9. The late great Alabama HC Paul “Bear” Bryant was born on this day in 1913.
