(La Puente)- The Pomona Red Devils carried their explosive offense into the first week of league play and left the La Puente Warriors in the dust with a 74-14 rout at McIntosh Field Friday night.

Junior Red Devil QB Darreon Lockett led the demolition by completing 18-of-21 passes for 325 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran the ball six times for 41 yards and a touchdown. Seven different Pomona players crossed the goal-line, led by senior WR Shawn Wilson, who had five receptions for 155 yards and three touchdowns, a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and an interception.

La Puente got its homecoming game started well with a 10-play, 80-yard drive down the field that was capped off with a 36-yard touchdown pass from senior QB Erick Morales to sophomore WR Jordan Fisher.

Pomona answered with three touchdowns before the first quarter ended. All of them were passes from Lockett to Wilson and they added up to 131 yards. The Red Devils continued to pummel La Puente’s defense and stretched their lead to 60 points before the Warriors scored again.

Five of the 11 touchdowns scored by the Red Devils were for 50 yards or more and consisted of players zooming past the Warriors’ defenders.

With the win, Pomona heads into a bye week with a 1-0 league record. La Puente falls to an 0-1 league record and will hit the road next week as they face Garey, who won their first league game against Ganesha 19-7.
