The Peterson Principle: 12/15/14

While Mark Holman stepping in for Bill Zernickow at San Dimas makes perfect sense, John Hardy being shown the door at Muir makes none. The Saints, who won two CIF Championships under Zernickow won’t miss a beat with a coach who was already on staff, the Mustangs will miss several.

Muir was successful under Hardy, always a threat to make a playoff run. He also has players getting D-1 looks and is getting them to the next level. Muir has learned discipline under Hardy and just two years ago, in 2013, went 11-2 and advanced to the semi finals before falling to Norwalk.

It isn’t easy either with Muir’s players constantly being wooed by other schools. If you added up all the players that were supposed to be at Muir but ended up somewhere else you could field two teams. Yet Hardy and staff, continued to coach up the ones they did have and kept moving forward.

Hardy was a local guy, he attended Muir, so it isn’t a case of the administration wanting somebody who was more familiar with the players. No explanation has been given for Hardy’s dismissal. In fact the only reason the story broke was that an ad was placed on the CIF website for a head football coach. Where does Muir turn for a new coach? Stay tuned.

Speaking of the Pacific League…when Crescenta Valley is the topic everybody talks about Brian Gadsby and he’s great. And everybody talks about Connor Van Ginkel and he’s terrific. But when talking about MVP candidates we need to talk Jordan Lobianco. This guy did everything except serve the post game meal. He caught 29 passes for 530 yards and eight touchdowns. He had 40 tackles and picked off nine passes for 262 yards. He returned 14 kickoffs for 405 yards and returned 19 punts for 857 yards averaging over 23 yards a return. Plus he has a cool name. And I don’t know, maybe he has served the post game meal.

How’s that Johnny Manziel for Brian Hoyer thing working out?

So do the 49ers wait until the end of the season or just pull the plug on Jim Harbaugh now?

Why do coaches keep leaving Wisconsin for lesser gigs? Are Arkansas and Oregon State better programs or higher profile than Wisconsin?

Of course the annual Jim Mora rumors are already starting. Michigan has reportedly reached out to the UCLA coach in case Harbaugh or Les Miles don’t work out.

When was the last time you were actually happy for the Heisman Trophy winner? The first thing I thought after seeing Marcus Mariota’s speech was “good for him.”

I finally got a chance to see some high school basketball this week…um, anyway about that Muir coaching change…

That’s my principle.
