Southeast Division Head Coach of the Year 2014: Crescenta Valley’s Paul Schilling

Crescenta Valley HC Paul Schilling...never a doubt

Crescenta Valley HC Paul Schilling…never a doubt

This one didn’t take much thought. The question was not who would be named Southeast Coach of the Year. It was who else? Crescenta Valley’s Paul Schilling won this in a landslide. A real no brainer.

The Falcons went undefeated (14-0) rolling all the way to the Southeast Division title. After finishing 8-2 in 2013 and being shut out of the playoffs, CV was on a mission all year and Schilling was leading the charge. The Falcons weren’t going to be satisfied with a Pacific League title or a playoff victory. It was championship or bust and Schilling was there all year to make sure they didn’t bust.

The Falcons cruised through the regular season and were never threatened. The closest game was a 12 point win over Muir. Some thought they would wilt under the bright lights of the post season but Schilling and CV never missed a beat. The Falcons routed Harvard-Westlake in the CIF opener and dispatched Paramount in round two. La Serna was poised to knock them off but Schilling’s crew fought and battled and outscored the Lancers 41-36 in the semis. They couldn’t beat Downey right? Well actually they could as the defense stood up and the offense did enough in a 21-14 win.

The Falcons had the talent and the experience to win in 2014. They just needed somebody t0 bring it all together and keep them on point. Paul Schilling was that guy. He is our Southeast Division Coach of the Year.
