Nick Bueno gave San Dimas fits in September

With Monrovia and San Dimas advancing to the Mid-Valley CIF Finals Saturday night we’ve decided to do something a little different. Instead of the traditional “Game Night” I’ve decided to list 10 reasons why Monrovia will win the title. The game will be played at Citrus College. Kick-Off is set for 7:30 PM.

1. Nick Bueno – There’s not a more mobile quarterback in the Valley. He has rushed for nearly 1400 yards while scoring 15 touchdowns. He can also crank it up and throw it if he has to.

 2. De’shawn Ramirez – If Bueno doesn’t get you Ramirez will. He has rushed for close to 900 yards and 10 TDs averaging over nine yards per carry. He also is a terror returning kicks racking up over 300 yards.

 3. Confidence – When you’ve won 13 straight you’re confidence is sky high. It’s not over confidence either. That would have bitten them against Paraclete or Whittier Christian. The Wildcats will win because in 2009, that’s what they do.

4. The Maddox Factor- Head Coach Ryan Maddox won a CIF title as the Defensive Coordinator with West Covina in 2004. He’s been there before and knows how to prepare his troops.

 5. Defense! Defense! – The 32 points given up to Whittier Christian last week was 11 more points than the Cats had given up in any one game all year. They pitched one shutout and allowed seven points or less in six games while giving up an average of just over 11 points per game. Led by Josh Lowden, Ellis McCarthy, Grant Haggard and Derrick Johnson, M-Town’s D can bring it.

 6. San Dimas? Been there, Done that – Monrovia has already beaten San Dimas this year. M-Town manhandled the Saints 36-17 back on September 25. The argument is that San Dimas is a much improved team now. And Monrovia isn’t?

 7. Adversity- Monrovia has had adversity this year and fought through it every time. Coming out flat against San Marino, the Wildcats still escaped with a two point win. They traveled out to the desert to face Paraclete in the second round of the playoffs and fell behind by three early. They sucked it up, stayed the course and prevailed 14-3. They trailed Whittier Christian twice by 10 points but still had the fortitude to rally and advance to the Finals.

 8. The Twelfth Man – Monrovia has always had rabid fans. They’ll yell and scream and voice their displeasure and that’s at their own coach. But they’re always passionate are expected to be out in full force Saturday night at Citrus.

 9. Big Plays- In 2009, Monrovia always comes up with a big play when it needs one. Last week it was a Ramirez 97 yard kick off return for a touchdown. In the opener against Arcadia it was a DuJawn Jones pick six (he also had one last week) and Bueno broke many opponents’ backs with big runs. They have a number of quick strike weapons.

 10. Monrovia is Due- Eight times Monrovia has advanced to the CIF Final game only to come up short. It’s about time they raised the banner. The ninth time will be a charm.
