The Peterson Principle: 3/2/15

It was nice to see Valley Christian get a home game for the CIF 4A Division semi final game. It wasn’t nice for the few hundred or so that got stuck outside in the cold.

With a total capacity of just over 600 that was going to happen. Let’s put it this way. There were probably many more disappointed Crusader fans than satisfied ones. The place looked like an old YMCA gym. I mean, the floor was nice enough but it was basically a bandbox. It would have made more sense to move it to a more spacious location. Cerritos College?

The Crusaders hung around for awhile but in the end they couldn’t keep up. Maranatha proved one thing in the 12 point victory. It was not all Tyler Dorsey. The Minutemen don’t have to have their best player at his best to win. Dorsey ended up with 22 but he missed several shots and it was the other guys that stepped up to preserve the win.

Guard Tey Williams came up large late with 13 points and his running mate Sean Romero also dropped in 11. Center Trevor Stanback sent back several Crusader shots early and altered a few others.

Dorsey is the man, no doubt. But the Minutemen have a solid supporting cast.

The CIF Final against Campbell Hall will be a PAC 12 preview. Dorsey, (who has committed to Oregon) will face off against Aaron Holiday (UCLA).

Although Maranatha was left out of the Open Playoff Division the season has played out perfectly for the Minutemen. Hire one of best coaches in the area in Tim Tucker, get a couple of transfers in Dorsey and Stanback and boom! Instant championship. This is the first time the Minutemen have been in the Finals.

Maranatha running back Caleb Devine, who was at the Valley Christian game Friday night, confirmed he is going to play at Mt. SAC next season. Devine, a big time talent, will be looking to parlay a two year stay there into a stint at a four year college.

The Lakers finally got back on the right track Sunday with a loss to Oklahoma City. What were they thinking winning three straight?

Shouldn’t a guy nicknamed “King” make more than 3-11 from the free throw line and not miss two at the end with the game on the line? LeBron James is great no doubt. But it was Houston’s Harden who was King James Sunday.

Every time you hear somebody rip former UCLA HC Ben Howland tell them to take a look at the current Steve Alford edition of the Bruins. If this is an upgrade then I’m the next football coach at Baldwin Park.

That’s my principle.
