The Peterson Principle: 6/1/2015

I love the fact that Temple City and Monrovia are playing in the semi finals. Who could ask for a better local matchup?

But I hate the idea that the game is at 3:15. How many parents, family, friends and even local baseball

fans will have to miss the game game due to work, etc.? It’s an age old argument and it seems to come up every year about this time. Varsity baseball needs to be played at night.

I understand all high schools don’t have lights but the point is why not? Heck, even little league plays games at night. It should be made a priority. Especially for schools that have had success in baseball like TC and Monrovia. Coverage would increase. So would attendance and interest. If baseball is truly America’s past time lets make it accessible to the fans.

Can you imagine how much attendance would decrease at Dodger Stadium if every game was played at 3:00 in the afternoon.

There is a simple solution for this game however. Call up the Arcadia Unified School District and have the game moved to Arcadia High School. There are lights there, and the field is half way between Temple City and Monrovia. Both teams have earned the right to play a home game so why not play it on a neutral field? Both teams would be happy as well as moms and dads, aunts, uncles and cousins. A 7:00 first pitch sounds about right. Let’s do it.

As for the game itself I’m leaning Monrovia. The Wildcats ran the Rio Hondo League table and are 3-0 against the Rams. That being said, Temple City couldn’t have picked a better time to get hot. Go check it out for yourself. That is if you can get there by game time.

The San Dimas Saints continue to roll along. Still undefeated 31 games in. Not much noise about it. Has anybody seen them?

I don’t imagine that Buena Park made any more friends by advancing to the finals of the Whittier College Tournament Saturday. Coyote haters can rejoice in the fact however that La Habra beat them in the championship game.

Eric Yost should be named the head coach at El Rancho. He was there last year and has been there all spring as the HC in passing tournaments and practices. A new face at this point doesn’t make sense. The Dons looked good Saturday at Whittier playing all the way into the semi finals before losing to La Habra. Isaiah Araujo, who was terrific in the tourney, is poised to have a huge year.

Marcos Lopez was not at the tournament for South El Monte. But contrary to popular belief (comments) Lopez has not transferred to Bishop Amat, Cathedral or St. Francis. He is out with a pulled hamstring.

That’s my principle.
