Chargers Take Mayor’s Cup

by Andy Villanueva

(Covina) – To say that Charter Oak made the Central Division foes rise and take notice is a complete understatement. The Chargers held Glendora to less than 100 yards for the better part of three quarters and dismantled the Tartans 28-7.

In arguably their best overall game, Charter Oak controlled the line of scrimmage and made life miserable for Matt Fink the entire night.

Kamden Brown and Zion Echols connected for a 60-yard touchdown pass that put the game out of reach midway through the third quarter.

Prior to the touchdown, the Charter Oak defense was on display as they held Glendora’s offense to just 47 yards through 39 minutes of game play. If it were not for the first Tartan drive in which they crossed the 50-yard line, the usually impressive ground attack was held to just one big play provided by Tyler Shoenick’s 13-yard gain.

Fink finally managed to find breathing room to scamper for an 80-yard score with nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
