Bulldogs Bite Falcons Late

Noah Powell Breaks away for the game winner for the Bank

By Tim Peterson

(Glendale) – Noah Powell caught a pass from Guy Gibbs, shook a tackle, got to the outside and 56 yards later was dancing into the end zone in the fourth quarter to give Burbank a 7-3 win over Crescenta Valley Thursday at Moyse Field in Glendale.

The game winner came with 7:44 left in the contest and the Burbank defense, as it had done all night, did the rest holding CV on the next two stops. It was only Powell’s third reception of the night and just the seventh reception for Gibbs. The Bulldogs offense struggled throughout the contest. They punted on three of their four possessions in the first half and five times on the night.

Crescenta Valley scored on its first  possession – a 26-yard field goal by Alex Atanackovic. The Falcons controlled the ball for nearly ten minutes on the drive but only managed three. They never scored again.

*** Crescenta Valley Quarterback Tyler Hill had 18 carries for 69 yards, and completed 13-27 for 86 yards with an interception.

*** Gibbs was just 6-16 for 91 yards and the touchdown.

*** Burbank had tough sledding on the ground as well rushing for just 49 yards total.

*** Brandon Beardt had 63 yards on 15 carries for CV.

*** Forrest Fajardo intercepted Hill on Crescenta Valley’s final possession and was able to run out the clock.

*** Boston Lakin had four catches for CV but only totaled 26 yards.

*** Each team turned the ball over once. Burbank coughed up a fumble in the second half.

*** Atanackovic missed a 35-yard field goal late in the first half.

*** Burbank improved to 3-1 (2-2 forfeit) while Crescenta Valley fell to 2-2.
