Southeast Division Game Night: Week 7

Southeast Division Game Night: Week 7

All games are 7:00 p.m. Unless otherwise indicated

Thursday October 15

Angelus League

Harvard-Westlake (4-2, 1-1) at St. Francis (4-2, 0-1)

The Golden Knights need a win to stay in the league hunt after letting one slip away last week to Salesian. It was also their second straight loss. St. Francis is too talented to lose three straight. They should handle Harvard-Westlake with ease.

Cathedral (6-0, 1-0) vs. Salesian (4-2, 1-0)

The Phantoms have been rolling all year. A week ago this looked like another cupcake to devour. But the Mustangs stunned St. Francis and now suddenly they’re a player. Again they will give Cathedral fits. At times they will frustrate the Phantoms. But again talent will win out. Cathedral makes a statement in the fourth quarter and knocks out Salesian. The Phantoms remain undefeated.

Del Rio League

Thursday October 15

La Serna (4-2, 1-0) vs. El Rancho (0-6, 0-1) at La Habra

The Lancers are the best team in the Del Rio. They proved that again last week with a rout of Whittier. They aren’t about to let a winless El Rancho team get in their way. Plus La Serna still wants a little pay back for that loss to the Dons last year. La Serna in a laugher.

Friday October 16

California (2-4, 1-0) vs. Santa Fe (2-4, 1-0) at Pioneer

Good win last week for the Condors opening league play by shutting out previously undefeated Pioneer. Santa Fe opened with a win over El Rancho and is still hoping for a playoff spot. Should be close into the fourth where Cal wins it with a kick.

Pacific League

Friday October 16

Burroughs (5-1, 3-0) at Arcadia (4-2, 3-0)

Some people think Arcadia still has a shot at winning the Pacific- especially after last week’s one point win over Muir. I’m not one of them. Burroughs is the team right now. The Indians can run and throw and play defense as well. Arcadia will have a tough time keeping up. Arcadia beat Muir by one. Burroughs beat the Stangs by 40. Burroughs blasts the Apaches.

Muir (1-5, 1-2) at Crescenta Valley (4-2, 2-1) at Glendale

This is going to be another one to forget for Muir. Some seasons are just rebuilding and getting experience for next year. 2015 is that season for the Stangs. For CV Tyler Hill has been replaced at quarterback by Evan Nelson and the Falcons haven’t missed a beat. In fact, they’re even better. Nelson has already thrown for 364 yards and seven touchdowns. The Falcons jump on top early and cruise to the win.

San Gabriel Valley League

Friday October 16

Warren (5-1, 1-0) at Gahr (3-3, 1-0)

Warren suddenly looks like a team that could contend for a playoff spot after last week’s big win over Paramount. The Bears have won five of their first six and could inch closer to the post season with a win over Gahr. Shouldn’t be a problem for the Bears. Gahr did beat Lynwood last week but Warren, in 2015, is a different animal. Bears win.

Suburban League

Mayfair (5-2, 3-0) at Bellflower (2-4, 1-1)

The battle for second continues. La Mirada will be the champ but after that it’s a crap shoot. Mayfair seems to have the inside track winning its first three league games. Bellflower? Last week the Bucs were humbled by La Mirada 65-0. Mayfair improves to 4-0 in the Suburban.
