Smudgepot Remains with Bearcats

Bonita retains the Smudgepot.

(Glendora) The annual Smudgepot battle started slowly but ended as it has the since 2012 with Bonita taking home the hardware with a 28-7 win over San Dimas.
The Saints broke a scoring drobyught for both teams finally breaking through with 4:23 left in the second quarter when Edward Siapno punched the ball across from one yard out.
The Bearcats came back and tied the score with 1:10 left befor the break. Tanner East connected with BJ McLaurin who weaved his way to paydirt.
The score remained tied until late in the third period when Brandon Bradshaw got the call on a two yard run. The score was set up when the Bonita special teams broke through and blocked a San Dimas punt. Isaiah Garcia at the Saint 30.
Bonita extended their lead to 14 when Romeo Gutierrez muscled his way across the goaline from a yard out with less than a minute gone the the final frame.
The Bearcat final dagger came midway through the fourth when East connected with Josh Peifer over the middle. Peifer got to the edge, picked up a block and was gone to glory.
*** East completed 12 of 20 passes for 122 yards with two touchdowns and one interception for Bonita.
*** It was a rough night for Saint quaterback Joey Tamayo who hit on seven of 15 passes for 34 yards.
*** Jarrell Sykes led all ground gainers on the night with 67 yards on 18 carries.
*** For the Bearcats Gutierrez had 28 yards on 10 carries and a score.
*** Anthony Bernal led all receivers with six catches but only for 39 yards.
*** McLaurin who was voted player of the game caught four balls for 52 yards and the lone score.
*** Bonita’s defense held San Dimas’ offense to a total of 101 yards.
*** The Saints were forced to three and out’s on eight of their 13 possesions.
*** The Bearcats managed three touchdowns on their seven second half possesions.
*** San Dimas travels south to take on California while Bonita returns home to host Claremont.
