1.) On this date in 1974, the Los Angeles Rams turn the ball over five times and lose to the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship, 14-10, in 28-degree weather at Metropolitan Stadium.

2.) The El Monte High School alumni baseball game will be held on Saturday, January 23, at the school. The game is set to start at 9: A.M.

3.) On this day in 1965, CBS purchases NFL TV rights for the 1966-68 seasons at 18.8 million per year.

5.) USC will play Wisconsin on Wednesday, December 30, in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. The Trojans have not played in a Rose Bowl game since the conclusion of the 2008 season. Mark Sanchez was the quarterback and Pete Carroll was still the head coach.

6.) On this date in 1933, the New York Yankees refuse Babe Ruth’s request to be released so he can manage the Cincinnati Reds.

7.) Former MLB centerfielder Devon White turns 53.

8.) Indianapolis Colts are still breathing for a playoff birth. All three of their quarterbacks (Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck, Charlie Whitehurst) are injured. They signed former Miami Hurricane quarterback Stephen Morris (undrafted in 2014) who has never played in an NFL game. They’ve brought in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman for a workout but have yet to sign him. Freeman has not appeared in an NFL game since playing for Minnesota in October of 2013.

9.) “HookemHorns” has won the ninth Mid Valley Sports Fantasy Football League.

10.) St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams center Tim Barnes is in his fourth year after being undrafted out of Missouri. He makes $660,000 a season.
