(Rosemead) – Rosemead sank 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure a 49-37 win over Mountain View Friday night in Mission Valley League action. The win was the fifth straight for the Panthers and left them in first place in the MVL.
Andrew Diaz hit six of seven from the line in the fourth and scored 8 points in the period. He led all scorers with 15. Mike Gradillas knocked down three free throws in the fourth and had five in the quarter. Gradillas was also in double figures with 11.
Greg Parham got the Panthers going in the first quarter with three buckets as Rosemead jumped out to a 14-10 lead after one. Gradillas scored six in the second quarter and the Panther defense did its job holding Mt. View to just seven as Mead extended the advantage to 24-17 at the half.
Jeremy Acosta, the Vikings’ 6’4” center, tried to get View back in the game in the second half. He scored nine points in the third and fourth periods combined including five at the charity stripe. Acosta led the View attack with 14 points.
Acosta was the only Viking in double figures however. Jonothan Sanchez had 8 and Eric Martinez and Angelo Joe had 5 apiece.
Diaz hit a three point shot and scored five points in the third but the Panthers managed only 8 points in the period. They still managed to take a 32-27 lead into the final frame.
Rosemead improved to 5-1 in league. The Panthers were tied for first with South El Monte coming in but hold the edge over the Eagles with a win head to head. Mt. View dropped 3-3 in the MVL.
