The TEN: 9/23/2016

THE TEN (NEW)(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1.) Ten years ago tonight Alhambra beat Arroyo at B.L. Bergstrom, 42-27. The Moors got 135 yards and three touchdowns from Shawn Smith before he was injured. Running mate Anthony Brown was injured early in the game. So to run out the clock HC Gil Ruedaflores turned to wide receiver Zion Babb. Lining up in the backfield in the fourth quarter, the Michigan-bound Babb carried the ball six-times for 91 yards and a score.

2.) Chase Utley…and his behind the back throw to the first base last night (Sept. 23, 2016).

3.) “San Gabriel? TC had better start worrying about Blair.”—MVS commenter “Vikings”

4.) Cleveland Indians slugger Carlos Santana hit his 34th home run last night. He was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent and was included in the deal that brought Casey Blake to the Dodgers in 2008.

5.) The MVS congratulates Sierra Canyon HC, Jon Ellinghouse on the birth of his daughter.

6.) New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett scored on a 27-yard touchdown run last night in the Patriots, 27-0, victory over the Houston Texans. The run was the longest by a New England quarterback since Steve Grogan in 1978.

7.) “Was Max Browne responsible for all the points given up by the SC defense?”—MVS commenter “Falcon1”

8.) On this date in 1978 Angels’ outfielder Lyman Bostock was shot and killed at the
age of 27.

9.) “I’ve told several writers this, and, again, I get back to it, but if you want to make God smile, tell him your plans.”—Vin Scully

10.) “We’re going out there for glory. And, when we get out there, we’re gonna yank ‘em, and tear ‘em, and rip ‘em… And, we’re gonna take ‘em, and roll ‘em around, and rip ‘em up into pieces! And, then we’re going to slaughter ‘em. And, after the slaughter is over, we’re gonna come back here and ring that victory bell…Like we’ve always wanted to.”
— Rydell HC, Coach Calhoun
