The TEN: 9/30/2016

THE TEN (NEW)(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1.) On this date in 1935 Babe Ruth went 0 for 3 in his final game for the Boston Braves.

2.) Former San Dimas offensive lineman Allen Brown turns 23 today.

3.) Chicago Cubs-Pittsburgh Pirates game on Thursday night is declared a 1-1 tie by MLB after it is called due to rain.

4.) On this date in 1977 Bell Gardens running back Paul Barton scored three touchdowns and rushed for 103 yards in the Lancers 42-2 victory over El Monte at Bergstrom Stadium.

5.) Lady Gaga to headline halftime show at Super Bowl 51.

6.) Through four games, Buena Park quarterback DeShaun Harvey has thrown 16 touchdown passes and only one interception.

7.) Former Atlanta Falcon running back Jamaal Anderson turns 44 today.

8.) El Monte’s victory over Pasadena-Marshall on Thursday night was the Lions fourth in a row.

9.) Dick Enberg.

10.) The Mark Keppel football team has forfeited its game with Hacienda Heights Wilson this week and Schurr next week. With its roster depleted from 22 down to 15, the administration decided to forfeit this portion of its schedule.

“We felt it was the best decision for our program right now,” said Keppel Principal, John Scanlan. “Our program remains viable going forward. We have 28 players on our soph-frosh team and did not want to bring them up. We will be back on the field this year, but we’ve had some injuries and felt this was the best decision. Head Coach John Tuttle is doing an outstanding job, and we talked when he got here in May that this would take time. We have players in the program and we’ll have had a coach on campus, for a full year when next season rolls around. We’re very excited about the future.”

While the situation remains fluid regarding when the players will be healthy, Keppel plans on resuming its schedule October 14th against Bell Gardens.

Why would a school deteriorate simply because they don’t have good football teams? That thinking is just ridiculous. No one needs football, that’s for imbeciles who have nothing better to do with their evenings. City schools have powerhouse athletics and you would be an idiot to send your kid to these places if you had choices. Keppel doesn’t care for football because the community doesn’t want those resources wasted on that product. The demographics vary with each school, many parents don’t want their boys playing football and who can blame them? Grow up, a school’s worth is dependent on the quality of the academics and has nothing to do with athletics….
