Maranatha enters the Mid-Valley Division with its own sense of style & sportsmanship.

Good Morning!

T-Minus-211 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

With Maranatha moving into the Olympic League in 2010 it will be interesting to see how they do considering a heavy graduation toll. Including multipurpose Danny Beckwith and quarterback Cody Keith.

Key Minuteman to keep an eye that is back is stud linebacker Chris Cornell, who also is the teams leading returning rusher.

Privately I’m taking a beating here.

Former South El Monte HC Erick Escamilla told me flat out he was not going to be coaching in 2010…but word is he’s interviewed and was on the short list at Nogales.

To loyal Fanview Lite folks, all I can tell you is what I’ve been told.

Workman’s search for a football HC is beginning to narrow.

Congrats to the El Monte Lady Lions for qualifying for the playoffs in more than a decade (Correction welcomed). Brian Tabatabai’s squad clinched the spot with a 61-45 victory over Gabrielino on Wednesday night.

Sandra Gutierrez racked up 16-points, 13-rebounds, 9-blocks, 7-assists, and 2 steals for the Lions, who expect to enter CIF as the second place team from Mission Valley League.

“We really upgraded our schedule this season and although it cost us some victories it really prepared us for this third stage of the season,” said Tabatabai. “We are playing better now than at any point in my four years as head coach. We are looking forward to Sunday’s draw.”

Speaking of the Lions I got an email telling me Manuel Santa Cruz (who will be a junior next fall) might be the best EM quarterback since Amilcar Archilla. Anybody want to confirm or deny this? I didn’t see him play in 2009, but he has nice numbers considering he shared time with Quang Phong.

With action still heated on the poll question of the best Old School Team of the Decade, I will leave it up through Friday…

Can I get a Muir-Rosemead match up in football some time soon? How about Muir-Arroyo?

Does somebody want to declare a challenger to San Dimas and Monrovia facing each other again next December in the Mid-Valley final?

Interesting developments coming out of the draft were not only the players who fell through the cracks, but that the first two players selected were from the Mid-Valley division not the Southeast.

The Southeast did dominate overall.

The picks made out of the Olympic League showed a lot people involved did some homework.

We will work harder in future drafts to snuff out homerism…Seeing some of the picks people made, heck I could have drafted myself…Maybe I will next year…

In the real world the St. Louis Rams have been sold and they’ve hired L.A. Rams legend Nolan Cromwell as receivers coach.

Note to Lou Torres: Who replaces Darrian Cazarin at quarterback for Alhambra next fall?

Stay thirsty my friends…
