(West Covina) – Corey Tello, who was the defensive coordinator at West Covina last season, was promoted to head coach of the Bulldogs former HC Mike Maggiore confirmed Thursday.
Tello has coached at West Covina for nine years and served as DC last year. He is a 2003 graduate of Ayala High School and played linebacker at Citrus College and the University of La Verne.
Maggiore stepped down last month after 21 years as the head coach. “Tello is an excellent choice,” Maggiore said.
They run spread all summer. So who knows. Who cares, just keep winning baby!
My guess would be that everything stays the same. I highly doubt they will switch to a spread offense. Doesn’t make any sense from a coaching/ teaching standpoint. If every coach on staff has been coaching the Wing principles, it makes more sense to keep rolling with it. So, unless there’s a QB coming up that nobody knows about I’d say it will be business as usual.
By the way, great selection by WC. Corey is a great guy and will be a tremendous leader for that program.
Good choice for WC…Stay with a person that knows the kids and has been part of the success over the years. Big question is, will they run the same offense or change to more up tempo spread style?
Uncle Willie… lmao
Congrats Coach Tello! And ANOTHER ULV alum takes the reigns at a So Cal High School. Not very many colleges prep coaches the way La Verne does.
