@ Anonymous I agree with you on one point. Tie Hill should not have been the starting quarterback but they did make a switch. Other than that you just eloquently talked out your deleted.
Too Bad Cathedral is not in this one. Good luck to all Teams.
@fbfan
As a former player, these observations are based on objective evaluation. In fact, Coach Goss does a fantastic job for us defensively and we are quite good. However, the fact remains that the OC calling the game would benefit us greatly having had more knowledge and experience for the reasons I outlined as examples. As coach was always telling us, we have to get better and studying is the way you do that. Is it not wise to do that as coach to improve? Is it wrong to have a diversity of experience to gain valuable knowledge?
Your comments seem to imply that you are upset or defensive about the presentation of factual information. Who does that make you? It is of no consequence to me who you are. It wouldn’t change the facts. I learned a great deal from my coaches and am greatful for those experiences, especially from Coach Hughes and Coach Warnock (RIP). Game film can inform, sting and bruise the ego, be insightful, but it never lies.
@Anonymous,
You sound like either
1. A bitter parent whose kid didn’t get enough PT or touches ( perhaps the dad of the back up QB)
Or
2. A coach who wasn’t welcomed to the staff but still sits in the stands 2nd guessing everything and talking crap about successful coaches such as Gossard & Son.
@falcon1,
As a CV fan, I always cheer for the Falcons to do their best. Coming from that mindset, allow me to submit to you that the players actually overcome the poor play calling of their offensive coordinator. To have so many weapons and tools at your disposal and yet have such an inability to understand how and when to use the weapons effectively based on multiple factors that influence a games eb and flow, is down right disheartening to watch as a fan. Case in point first example is the understanding of how to use personnel; you have an All CIF safety who is played at the starting quarterback to start the season when you have a perfectly competent senior QB who manage the game well and be used effectively without compromising the use of the all CIF safety kids who is the back bone of the defense and had the opportunity to earn a full ride to a D1 university as a defensive player not a QB. Second example I submit to you, is the lack of understanding when and how to call plays based on game situations; at Muir this past season and the CIF title year for that matter, CV is up multiple scores in the first and second half, has a veteran Oline who is physically dominate up front at will and instead working the clock and controlling the game on the ground after ripping off 10,12 yards a carry, they come out whole series going spread yuck and duck and actually go negative yardage in multiple series that they do this forcing themselves into 3 and outs! Absolutely astounding! Lastly, when your not a system guys, and merely throw a bunch of schemes together and call it your offense, you lack an identity from which players gain their offensive mentality from which does not allow your players to think along the same track and anticipate where the game plan should take them next in a progression based upon the adjustments of defense’s they see. This can create hesitation in the athletes play which knowledgeable and experienced coaches know. Their OC’s experience consists of I played for my daddy, never played college ball learning from anyone else, and have only ever coached for my daddy. It could be said, that by definition is the appitomy of the expression, “daddy ball”. That is just how I see it “playing second”.
CV will be an offensive juggernaut this season
Looks like some good teams will be lining up this weekend. Good luck to all of the teams
Wish this wouldn’t have coincided with the Charter Oak tournament, but good luck to everyone!!!
This is the first serious gathering of 2017 hopefuls to date. I continue to be proud of coach Schilling for winning the title a couple years ago, and thank him for his work in hosting this event.
