Moreland Steps Down at San Marino

Moreland holds "The Perpetual Trophy" to celebrate San Marino's victory over South Pasadena in 2009

(San Marino)- After six seasons leading the San Marino Titan football program, head coach D.R. Moreland has decided to step down.

Moreland, who compiled a 30-31-2 overall record while leading his alma mater, led the Titans to their first playoff appearance since 2003 in 2008 where they fell to Paraclete in the first round.

Last season San Marino won its first playoff game in over a decade with a home victory over Rosemead before getting knocked out by Azusa in the second round. The Titans finished 9-3 in 2009.

Moreland is looking to advance in his teaching career and will be taking more classes in the coming year.

“This was not an easy decision for me.” he said. “But I know at this time it is what is best for me and my family. I’m going to go back to school which will take time away from football.”

The team was notified during the lunch hour.

Anonymous sources indicated to the Mid Valley that San Marino does not have have a teaching position open. So as of the moment the position will most likely be filled in a walk-on capacity.
