Spartans Dominate Falcons In First Round

Miguel Aguero had the hot hand for the Spartans Friday night.

(Montebello) The Schurr Spartans faced the Valley Falcons Friday night at Ken Davis field in the first round of the Division 11 playoffs. The Spartans got huge games from Miguel Aguero, Kevin Lopez and Francisco Remigio in the complete domination of the Falcons in a 49-14 rout.

Schurr scored early and often and were up 14-0 before the seats were warm on a cool evening in Montebello. Aguero connected with Remigio on touchdown strikes of 14 and 28 yards.

Early in the second quarter the Spartans went up 21-0 on a 24 yard run by Lopez. Remigio added the extra point as he did on the previous two scores.

Kevin Lopez found paydirt three times.

With three minutes left in the first half, the Aguero to Remigio connection was in effect again on a 24 yard catch and run.

The Spartans continued where they left off coming out of the break taking the ball to start the third quarter and driving 64 yards to paydirt on 10 plays. Lopez did the honors again this time from five yards out.

Valley managed to get on the board late in the third quarter on a six yard run by Malcom Wesley. The score capped a 12 play 77 yard drive.

The Spartans only needed four plays to regain their 35 point advantage with Lopez’s third score of the night that finished of a 57 yard drive.

Three td’s for Francisco Remigio.

Early in the fourth quarter the Falcons managed their second and final score of the night. Wesley scored on a 42 yard run with 10:15 left to play. Wesley was the only offense for Valley gaining 172 yards on 30 carries with the two scores.

Schurr answered the Falcon score with one of their own going 68 yards and six plays with Aguero finding Lance Babb II in the endzone from 37 yards out. Aguero finished the night hitting on 21 of 28 passes for 331 yards and four scores. 

Remigio’s consisted of six catches for 109 yards and three touchdowns and two rushes for 21 yards.

Lopez carried the ball 14 times for 126 yards and three scores while Arron Silva added seven catches for 96 yards.

    the possibility of seeing two teams who started the season (scrimmage) playing for a chance at a finals appearance is high. its good for local football. it seems like every week its a different guy having a good for the spartans. how does a defense prepare for this? kudos to the staff and the players!
