Its football, we should of capitalized when we had a chance. I do agree Schurr was the better team but unfortunately not our night. In the playoffs you cant take anyone lightly and give them the game. Until next year….Good luck to all. Spartans will be back!!!!

How the heck does Schurr the number one seed overall manage to draw the longest trip in the CIF pairing? Not only that but man while watching the game Friday night, it was so apparent that the refs had something against the Spartans. Phantom holding and excessive blocking flags (had to be like 25 flags)… not to mention how Santa Maria player back peddled 15 Yards before scoring (taughting) wasn’t called back. They tacked on the penalty yards on the next play/kickoff!!?? What the heck!

@ Coach Ochoa: It’s nice to hear from you, Jacob! I hope you’re doing well at Mountain View.
That was a good team we had under Coach Torres in 2011. We weren’t quite as good as San Gabriel, but we still went 9-3 and made it to the quarterfinals before getting knocked off by C0vina.
Yeah, you were the defensive coordinator under Coach Torres, and I’m still not sure as to what exactly caused both of you to be let go after the end of that season. I know there was a lot of drama coming from several sources, but I never learned the exact reason for the administration’s decision.
In my view, based on what little I know, too many people meddled with a highly competitive program, and the results of that meddling were disastrous.
Mike Gutierrez is at Downey (go Vikings!), but I’ve forgotten who the other guys are. Perhaps you can refresh my memory.
Happy holidays to you and your family!

EASY???? It’s not easy when SEM was the underdog the past two games. There is no easy roads or games in CIF playoffs. Every team competes and prepares hard for playoffs.. You say easy, you must be in the stand with the others team pom-poms.lol

Why was it so easy for SEM to get to the semis? I understand they went out and won games, but playing teams that are pretty much unknown around this area, they seemed to get an easy bracket.

@Ron Vrooman, speaking of 2011, Ron, you would be happy to hear that as a credit to the mentorship of Coach Reudaflores and Torres at Alhambra, every defensive coach (other than myself) on that Quarterfinal playoff team will be coaching in the Semifinals this week. Good luck to their respective teams at Downey, Cypress, South Gate and Eagle Rock.

@ My Two Cents: That playoff victory by San Gabriel over San Dimas was in 2011, but otherwise you’re right.
The Matadors went all the way to the Division XI final, where they lost to a highly-talented Monrovia team. The game was tied, 14-14, at halftime, but the Wildcats completely dominated the second half to win the title.
The stars on that Monrovia squad included running back Marquise Bias and lineman Ellis McCarthy (who went on to UCLA).

    Good luck to SEM!

The weakest teams Santa Maria played this year are when they played in the Div 12 playoffs. Their preseason and league play apponents are from Div 11-8. They probably should not be in Div 12. Although SEM played Arroyo tougher than anybody in league they will do their best but it won’t be god enough. Just too many classy horses.

Schurr was a mess four years ago, Ramos did a great job to make Schurr competitive and winning league, that being said Schurr lower level are bad. Now we will see if Ramos can coach those kids up.

Well it figures that all this hate would come when Schurr lost. Those coaches did a great job and made it a disappointing but memorable season! Schurr will bounce back

For those who says some of the local teams don’t have a chance, just remember the 2012 San Dimas vs San Gabriel. No one game SG a chance in that one either. It’s a long shot but it could happen.

I would like to see SEM advance, but what Santa Maria did to schurr makes me think that SM will be in the finals. I don’t think coach G has what it takes to make South play over their heads. CO should move on. This is the best team CO has ever had. Covina had a great year and coach Brown should be coach of the year, but their season ends Friday. Good luck to all the local schools this week.

I’ll take Downey to advance because the physically match up with Capo. As much as I’d like to see Covina advance CC is a different animal. It will take a huge effort from Burns to keep them close. The Bank moves on as well because no one in that Division is playing as well as they are right now. The best game should be South vs. Santa Maria. Being a holiday weekend the drive from the Los Padres will be an easy one. I fully expect the Santa Maria faithful to be sitting outside the South campus by noon. However the South should pull this out. Their ground and pound still fits perfectly for this match up. Good Luck to everyone this week. And Fight On !!!!

Lompoc and CO was what they wanted but CO Vs either should be good as long as they get thru RV.

Downey and Paraclete both two of the best programs I’ve seen around never rebuilding.

    SEM could pull this off

Congrats to all the teams that get to practice on Thanks Giving Day. It is a big time goal for all coaches and players. Wish they would move it back a week so more teams could participate in this ritual like it was a couple of seasons ago. Shout out to my dark horse SEM. Happy for them.
