Mt. View (0-1) at Workman (0-1)
The Vikings fell to South Pas while the Lobos couldn’t keep up with La Puente in the opener. Workman will need to stop the run to have a shot, something they had trouble with last year in a big loss to Mt. View. The Lobos might be able to for awhile, but in the end the Vikes will wear them down. Mt. View grinds out a win.

Arcadia (1-0) at Cathedral (1-0)
Arcadia was explosive in Zero Week. Anytime you drop 60, it’s impressive. However La Salle has dropped off considerably this year. The Lancers lost a lot of talent, have a new head coach and just aren’t the same team. Cathedral has a new coach as well as Anthony Jefferson has taken over for Kevin Pearson. But Cathedral is still Cathedral. The Phantoms blew out Banning last week to kick things off. Arcadia is good, no doubt. The Apaches are much improved from last year. But can they beat Cathedral? I’ll believe it when I see it. I just don’t see it.
Cathedral 35 Arcadia 24
South Pasadena (1-0) at El Monte (1-0)
The Lions opened some eyes last week. Over 500 yards rushing tends to do that. Look for the same this week. If Baldwin park couldn’t stop Davon Booth and company how will South Pas be able to? Lions will roar again. They’ll put it away in the second half.
El Monte 42 South Pasadena 21
Bell Gardens (0-1) at El Rancho (0-1)
The Dons got blitzed by Northview while Bell Gardens couldn’t stop Segerstrom. Should be a pick ’em game. Expect a low scoring contest where a defensive play late is the difference. Could go either way. I like Bell Gardens and Margarito Beltran to come out with the win.
Bell Gardens 20 El Rancho 17
Arroyo (0-1) at Nogales (1-0)
The Knights were in the game last week against Bonita but a couple big plays by the Bearcats and a couple big mistakes by Arroyo led to the loss. Nogales got off on the right foot under Oscar Robles with a 42-16 win over Cantwell. The Nobles have enough to give Arroyo fits for awhile but in the end Arroyo should be fine. Knights get their first.
Arroyo 31 Nogales 14
Rosemead (1-0) at San Gabriel (0-1)
The Panthers shut out Huntington Park in impressive fashion 28-0 last week. The Matadors hung around but ultimately fell to Montclair 31-21. Should be an interesting matchup. San Gabriel looks much improved while Rosemead is trying to bounce back from a tough season last year. The Matadors won’t get blown out. They should battle well into the fourth quarter, but Rosemead gets it done late.
Rosemead 27 San Gabriel 20
Northview (1-0) at San Marino (1-0)
Northview and San Marino both came away with big wins in the opener. The Vikes routed El Rancho while San Marino beat up on Pasadena. The home field advantage shouldn’t be that much of an advantage for the Titans. Northview can win on the road. The Vikings had a balanced attack last week – 228 passing (221 for James Jimenez) and 261 rushing. San Marino will rely on the legs of Beau Hobbie to get things going. Should be a good one- maybe the best of the weekend. Northview holds on late.
Northview 31 San Marino 28
South El Monte (0-1) at Covina (0-1) Covina District Field
Maybe South can score early and gain some momentum, or maybe force a turnover and get the Colts on their…nah who am I kidding? Covina fell to a solid Los Altos team while the Eagles were shut out, yeah shut out, by Alhambra. The Colts score early and often. This one might be over by halftime. Covina, big.
Covina 42 South El Monte 7
Tim you hit every game right except El Rancho.
Rsmd 20 – SG 0 Matadors still have a lot of work to do. Inside the 10 twice and came up empty. Not even a FG attempt?
Phantoms Big vs arcadia. The Phantoms will punch Arcadia in the mouth early and The Apaches will never recover.
Any time, Coach; what’s life without a little humor? Have a great baseball/football/family weekend!
@Ron Vrooman, AHS stat man, LMAO.. You just made my day!
Let’s see what Schurr has to offer today. Today’s game will portray how there season will go. Should be interesting. Good luck to the Bulldogs and Spartans
Pleased to report that MVS came down on the wrong side of the Workman-Mt. View pick, as coach Hector gets his first win with the Lobos, 31-22. This doesn’t mean there’s a CIF title in the cards any time soon, but it does show the effects of solid coaching.
“Just a little bit, just a little bit…”
Covina lower levels today vs SEM :
Freshman won 46-14
JV won 12-8
Take the over. Yeh…definitely the over. Wednesday is fish sticks. Green lime jello for dessert.
This site is really boring without me…
@ Legend & “@ Legend”: This discussion reminds me of the line from Aretha Franklin’s hit song, “Respect”: “I’m running out of fools, and I ain’t lying.”
Problem is, if all the buffoons and malcontents moved on, this site would fall silent. You go to the movies to see people working-out the messes they’ve made of their lives, and that’s what goes on here too. It’s entertaining, it’s cathartic, it’s America.
I have been on these boards for a long time and it seems like it’s just a bunch of high kids and immature adults on the boards now. Is this what high school has become? If you don’t like what the Mid writes then move on.
The revival of the “Mission Spike” game between SG & MEAD?
I thought no more Schurr/Montebello comments. I see a couple everyday! Like I said you are with Montebello in all this
From Duane B.: No one from the Mid Valley is with either side. Sometimes comments get through and we have to go back and clean it up. It’s not a perfect world! Schurr and Montebello people are welcome to comment on their own teams. When it gets to being a pissing match about transfers…those will not make it!
