The more $$$$$$$$ CIF takes in the more $$$$$$$$$$ for pay increases and meal allowances. And lets not forget lawyers…

I mean, come on. It’s all about priorities.

IMHO CIF ( today ) is about as useful as gasoline at a forest fire.

And of coarse…your mileage may vary.

@ Anonymous: You’re welcome, man. Any time.
Be sure to turn out for the Temple City game on Friday night. The Moors will do everything they can to live up to their #1 ranking in Division 13.
Perhaps someday Alhambra will contend for the #1 spot in a somewhat higher division. That would be something to look forward to.

If there were money to be made in the deal, you can bet there would be 40 divisions. CIF stopped at 13 because that’s the point at which their product has become so watered-down as to inspire indifference.

@ Bottom Line again: There will never be 40 divisions in the CIF Southern Section. (Talk about hyperbole.) On the contrary, I believe there could be a move to realign the current divisions so that there would be more schools in the “better” divisions.
What’s ridiculous is allowing every team in Division 1 to make the playoffs regardless of how poor a team’s record might be. That’s something that should be changed.

@ Bottom Line: After World War II, the CIF football playoffs typically included second-place teams as well as league champions. That was certainly true of the 4A Division, to which Alhambra belonged in the 1960’s and ’70’s.
And, by the early 70’s, the CIF playoffs had room for an at-large team or two. Then, in around 1977, the playoffs were greatly expanded so that third-place teams have usually made it in.

Life is an act of drawing lines, and CIF has drawn the line at the lucky number 13. What would happen if the federation decided to have, say, 40 divisions? Would everyone come on here to insist that the ball being played in division 40 deserves to be spoken of in the same hushed tones as the rest? If not, where do YOU draw the line?

IN THE LAND OF THE BLIND THE ONE EYED MAN IS KING.

LISTENING TO ALL OF THE NEGATIVE TALK HERE IS REALLY STRANGE, RANKINGS WILL ONLY HAVE A TRUE PURPOSE WHEN PLAYOFFS AND SEEDING’S ARE DONE.

FOR NOW ITS GREAT TO SEE COACHES WORKING HARD AND KIDS STILL PLAYING THE GAME, AS FOR THE GUYS WHO SAY IT DOES’NT MATTER THAN WHY ARE YOU EVEN COMMENTING, WELL BECAUSE IT DOES MATTER.
    STOP WITH THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS.

IF YOU ARE NOT CONCERNED THAN GO TO ANOTHER SITE, THIS SITE COVERS THESE AREAS AND THESE SCHOOLS, GO TO THE DIV ONE THRU THREE SITE SO YOU CAN BE WHERE YOU THINK IT MATTERS.

AND ON THAT NOTE, I APPLAUD C.I.F. FOR DIV 12 AND 13, I BELIEVE POSSIBLY INDIRECTLY THEY HAVE DESIGNED A DIVISION FOR HOME GROWN ONLY, AND ITS GREAT TO SEE ALHAMBRA RESIDENTS PLAYING IN ALHAMBRA AND ROSEMEAD RESIDENTS PLAYING IN ROSEMEAD, AND EL MONTE KIDS PLAYING AND BEING THE STARS IN EL MONTE.

FOR THE SMALL MINDED ONES DIVISION 13 HAS ALMOST 80 TEAMS, WOW THAT’S A LOT OF SCHOOLS TRYING TO BE RELEVANT IN THE FOOTBALL SCENE, THAT’S A GOOD THING.

AS FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS IN THAT DIVISION WELL HAVE’NT WE BEEN THROUGH ENOUGH IN THE PAST 20 YEARS, DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGES, CONCUSSIONS, BAD FOOTBALL TALK, EVEN NFL STARS COMING DOWN ON THE GAME, C.I.F. CHANGING THE RULES EVERY YEAR, AMOUNT OF TIME WE CAN PRACTICE, PARENTS AND BOOSTERS COMING DOWN ON COACHES, COACHES STEALING MONEY, LITTLE LEAGUES BEING RAVAGED AND TORN APART BY ALL SORTS OF CRONIES, AND WHEN THE DUST SETTLES ALL THESE NITWITS ARE GONE LEAVING THE HOMEGROWN TALENT AND THE SCHOOLS TO TRY TO CLEAN UP THE MESS.

WELL I HOPE THAT’S THE CASE FOR ALL THE SCHOOLS IN THIS DIVISION AS FOR SOME OF THE SCHOOLS I’M READING WEIRD STUFF WHICH IS KIND OF OUT OF PLACE NO DISRESPECT AT THE CITY OR AT THE PLAYERS, BUT SOME OF THESE SCHOOLS I HAVE READ WENT OUT AND RECRUITED KIDS FROM OTHER REGIONS, OR I SHOULD SAY COACHES AND STAFFS HAVE RECRUITED KIDS, ACTUALLY I THINK THOSE ARE JUST RUMORS I CANT IMAGINE A GROWN MAN OF OVER 40 GOING AROUND POACHING KIDS FROM OTHER AREAS, ESPECIALLY IN A NON PRIVATE SCHOOL CONFERENCE AND LEAGUE.

MOST OF THESE SCHOOLS HAVE HAD REALLY GOOD HOME GROWN TALENT AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD TUFF PLAYERS, I HOPE THE KIDS IN THE CITY ARE THE STARS OF THEIR TEAMS IF NOT SHAME ON THE PROGRAM.

ACTUALLY DIV 12 AND 13 SHOULD BE FOR A NO TRANSFER SECTION, I KNOW THAT WOULD BE TOUGH TO DO BUT I BELIEVE IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR COMMUNITIES AND FOR THE YOUTH OF THE CITIES.

FROM WHAT I READ THE MENTAL MIDGETS WHO ARE RUNNING AROUND RECRUITING ARE REALLY EMBARRASSING THEIR SCHOOLS AND PROGRAMS, AND IN MY OPINION ARE PISSING ON THE KIDS WHO REALLY LIVE IN THE AREA.

WELL WHAT DO I KNOW I,M ONLY 56 AND PLAYED POP WARNER IN THE SEVENTIES, COACHED FOR A LONG TIME AND PLAYED FOR ALONG TIME, BUT AT LEAST I HAVE BOTH EYES OPEN.

    @ those that bash kids,

I guess if you are a college football player and do not play for Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, or any of the power 5 teams you’re not playing real college football… Kids that attend their proper schools don’t have a choice as to what division the school is in. These guys just want to play high school football. Stop the division bashing, it is what it is… Get over yourselves!!

Good football for the kids at those schools to play at. They know they can’t play at schools in higher divisions and probably were raised to stay where they are b/c of pride in their community or staying with their friends…instead of selling out like the kids who decided to go to say…..cathedral. Bad football for anyone in the higher divisions to play. Cathedral guy talks about how they were div 12 at some point….and no it wasn’t labeled that way,….until they started recruiting the athletic kid to their school, getting stellare coaches and upping their schedule…oh did I mention the athletic kids…that didn’t live near cathedral!! Alhambra doesn’t have that appeal. Are there some schools EM and Alhambra can beat in div 11 or 12? schurr there are….maybe even some really bad d 10 schools, but they aren’t playing them wk in and wk out. When they start doing that, they will see playing in d13 gives them a real shot at winning a league title and maybe even cif. Memories for all to be had. But bad football. Good luck winning the trophy though.

Allow me to inform the readership that back in the sixties and seventies, CIF had only FOUR divisions, and a team had to WIN LEAGUE to make the playoffs. The current setup of 13 divisions exists for the sole reason of lining CIF’s pockets, not because anyone at the federation’s office feels there’s high-level ball being played in the lesser groupings. Anybody who believes a division 12 title puts their school on the sports map has been well and truly played by the money sharks in Los Alamitos.

@ SGV Fan: I also endorse everything you say, except for the name-calling toward people who disagree with our viewpoint. This is all about our young people, and the schools they attend and represent.

@ Bottom Line: Believe it or not, Alhambra High has won three CIF championships in football (in 1928, ’39, and ’46). The last time AHS appeared in a CIF final was in 1955, when the Moors lost to San Diego High.
Of course, all of that happened a long time ago. But, even now, the concept is not entirely foreign to us.

Not everyone is in the same divisions morons, these schools have had bad past seasons and are in a level playing field in CIF and actually have a shot to do something, granted you still have to qualify through your league. How excited those kids must be at Alhambra and El Monte to see their school name ranked highly in CIF. You morons commenting negatively here must have been serious scrubs when and where you played HS Ball. Congrats to all the teams recognized and continue to make your school and families proud

Let’s take this ranking to its logical conclusion and imagine Alhambra as a CIF champion. Does that ring true? The pollsters apparently say that as of this week, that’s where the Moors stand.
Which brings up an urgent question: should divisions 11-13 even be awarded a championship trophy? Doesn’t that cheapen the nature of this honor? In the same way that some teams don’t get into the playoffs, I feel these outer divisions shouldn’t be allowed into contention for a CIF crown. The message would be: get better, to where you can at least hang with the top 10 divisions, or you’ll be playing for some sort of participation trophy, NOT a CIF crown.

But making a poll of Division 13 is kind of funny. You might well have a team who is among the strongest teams in D13, but yet they will have a lousy record and won’t get anywhere near the playoffs because they happen to be stuck in a league with a lot of much better teams.

I guess defense does it. We can only hope this holds up; I suppose everybody will be out to get us now. This poll should give us a little extra motivation to continue winning.
