Titans Crowned Champions

Beau Hobbie scored three time for Rio Hondo League champ San Marino.

Monrovia— Beau Hobbie and Kade Wentz combined for five rushing touchdowns in San Marino’s 34-21 win over Monrovia Friday night, clinching a Rio Hondo League title at Monrovia High school.

Picking up late in the first quarter, the Titans were the first to throw the first scoring blow when Hobbie capped an 11-play drive with his one-yard score. That lead was quickly erased when the Wildcats answered right back after Nick Hernandez connected with Aj Carreon for the 25-yard score.

San Marino wasted no time however when it returned the favor on their ensuing possession. Just a minute after the Wildcats scored their first touchdown, Hobbie took the handoff and bolted his way to the end zone from 59 yards out, regaining a seven-point lead with 10:43 left in the second quarter.

Hernandez wasted no time to lead the Wildcats to another scoring drive. Faking the handoff to Maury Rams IV, he found Frank Hernandez alone in the middle for the score, tying the ball game at 14.

The Titans fired back on their next possession when Wentz kept the option and bulldozed his way for the score, taking a 21-14 lead before intermission.

After the half, Monrovia tied the ball game on fourth and 11 fake punt. Keeshonne Robinson took the reverse handoff, dodged a tackle and raced to the end zone.

With 7:30 left in the fourth quarter, Hobbie and Co. managed the clock with runs and short passes. Just before the two-minute warning, Wentz punched in his second rushing score of the night, after the blocked PAT, however, the Titans had a six-point lead.

With two timeouts left and possession, the Wildcats tried to rally back. The drive quickly ended on the first play when the snap sailed over Hernandez’s head and into the hands of San Marino’s Jackson Wendling.

Hobbie then put the game on ice when he scored the games final touchdown, sealing the win and crowing the Titans as league champs.

The Titans will wait for their playoff seeding this Sunday.

    RE Hobbie

Yes if you are going into retirement, having your son as your assistant coach and your grandson as a player in your last years, is an experience that most successful people in any successful endeavor would appreciate.

Great win for the Titans and if the rumors of Hobbie retiring are true, even greater win for him as well. Proud of this SM team for going out and earning this W.
