Knights Roll through Lion Country

Tony Davalos shut down the Lions in complete game victory

(El Monte) – Arroyo scored five runs in the sixth and Tony Davalos fired a complete game three hitter in the Knights 9-1 win over host El Monte Friday in Mission Valley League play.

Davalos had a no hitter through three innings and a one hitter threw six before the Lions finally pushed across a run in the seventh. Danny Farfan tripled home Gus Hernandez who had singled.

Arroyo got all of the runs it needed in the first inning. David Guerrero beat out an infield hit and Josh Arambula reached on an error. Steven Adame singled to pick up one run and when Davalos reached safely on another error the second run scored.

Mike Amaya singled and scored on a double by Arambula in the fifth. In the sixth the Knights broke it wide open. Alex Solis led off the inning with a home run over the center field fence. Amaya doubled and Guerrero singled him home. Mark Roche followed with a base hit and Adame walked to load the bases. Davalos lined a hit to right to drive in two runs and Jesse Garcia ripped a double to right to plate one more. By the time the dust had settled it was 8-0 Arroyo.

Roche walked and worked his way around in the seventh for the final run.

Davalos was dominant through out the contest. He struck out seven and walked just one. He didn’t allow a runner past second until the seventh inning.

Farfan started and went five for El Monte before giving way to Casey Lopez who finished up. Farfan allowed six hits while striking out nine. The Knights were the beneficiary of five Lion errors.

With the win Arroyo improved to 7-5 in the MVL with two games remaining. South El Monte lost to Mt. View Friday to drop into a second place tie with the Knights. The two teams will meet head to head in the regular season finale next Thursday.
