So I went to a LS football game tonight just to enjoy a game since I haven’t been to a game in a couple years and I ran into some old coaches and friends and the first thing they told me was that someone had wrote something about me in this thread. I couldn’t believe it because it’s been almost a decade since I played at LS but sure enough someone left a really cool and funny comment about me haha, at first all the coaches were laughing because they thought I wrote it myself but first of all I don’t really keep up with any football outside of nfl fantasy lol. So I immediately laughed because I really didn’t write it haha, though when I read it I really enjoyed the comment because it was hilarious to me. Pretty neat that people are still talking about something I did almost 10 years ago, makes me happy that I had some sort of impact on someone or the program. I was a small part of this amazing programs success but I was lucky enough to play with awesome teammates and for one of my favorite coaches of all time, coach Beltran. I am interested to know who left that comment though, if you see this credit where credit due HMU via email (andrewbuenrostro8@yahoo.com) or Instagram (buenooo8).

Hahaha I wish that was me that wrote that man. I went to a la Serna game tonight and one of the coaches told me that someone had posted that comment on here so I came here to laugh at it for a minute because I thought it was hilarious and I thought it was funny that all the coaches thought I wrote it lol! I’m stoked that people are talking about me almost 10 years later but I was a little part of that team, I played with some awesome teammates and for one my favorite coaches of all time….coach Beltran !

Also, it’s funny because this comment was only a few weeks ago but I appreciate the compliments ! Def loved playing coach Beltran, one of my favorite coaches I’ve ever played for. Pretty neat, stoked people are still talking about me after all this time! Awesome ! Who are you by the way haha?

    @ beltran is no guru!
    @ Joe perez
Here’s what I will say. Coach Beltran isn’t all about wins & losses he really cares about his players 1st. But when he took over La Serna in 08. He went 76-26 in 8 seasons 31-9 in league with 5 League titles. More impressively his last 5 years @LS he went to 5 straight semifinals sandwiched around 3 Championship runs Winning the Chip in 2013. That’s hard to do at a public school nowadays. Beltran is classy and if you were fortunate to have a son play for him. He was better for it. People forget LS wasn’t even on the map (Football map) until he changed that culture there. Most of his coaches stayed there. I believe maybe two went with him to BG. Clearly this isn’t BG of the 80’s. They are smaller not very experienced. He has a tougher job with what he has. If had 1/2 of the talent that LS seems to get these days. I’m sure he’d run off some playoff runs.
Look at Charter Oak they always seem to have D1 athletes every year from 08 -2017 went to 3 chips 3 semis in that time. But that ended don’t see them coming back any time soon. Last year they were 2-9 so far this year 3-4 If you win with stars and can’t win without them then maybe it’s the players & not the coach.

@anonymous What wrong doing ? Not sure you know the details or maybe you think you know. But he was railroaded. George is a good coach but they are running the same offense as before w/the majority of the same coaches. If he went to BG not sure he would fare better. Just sayin’
I wish my son would have played for him. He is all heart! Go Titans!!!!

@ La Serna get your fact straight…this staff DOES have the signature wins because the offensive
staff has bee there since the run started in 2010 the ONLY change being Coach Verstegen
taking over the O Line for Coach Winchell…This staff is responsible for the 98 wins vs 27 losses
since 2010..Coach Beltran changed the culture and attitude of the LS program and the players
continue to approach the game with a “Play for one another” attitude. Coach George has put his
own stamp on the team..Courage..Character..and Commitment being the LS motto. If you are not
on the field every day to know the Staff and players attitude and level of commitment to the program don’t
pull statements out of your keester like you know what your talking about please. Give credit
where credit is due…the entire LS football program has remained relevant since 2010 when the
lancers started running the “wing” and has tweaked the “O” in order to try and stay a step ahead
    the defense’s they meet.

@ still a lancer under Beltran LS never played in Div 3… his last 2 seasons were Div 6 and Div 7
starting in 2016 (under coach George) LS was Div 3 in 16 and 17..Div 5 in 18 and now Div 6.
BTW the offensive staff has been in place since 2010 the only change has been in the O line with
Coach Verstegen taking over for Coach Winchell. under this Offensive staff since 2010 the lancers are
    98 wins vs. 27 losses

I’m not knocking Beltran, he was a great coach for LS and it’s unfortunate what happened to him, but you fail to realise that George was coaching in those wins, including the 2013 CIF Championship.

LS is running the same winning offense and although they’ve had some tough losses in the playoffs, they have been competitive games.

Not to blast Bell Gardens but they are 1-5 in D12 and LS is 7-0 in D6. Like I said before the season is not over and we still have playoffs, we will see how the year plays out.

@former la serna parent- what’s bell gardens current record under coach beltran? I believe there is a common opponent in (el rancho). How did coach George do against el rancho and how did coach beltran do against el rancho? I feel el rancho is a very good team! There qb can ball out and coach medrano has a good team. I’m sure beltran and his staff are doing good things in bell gardens and will compete for league again in the almont.

Joe Perez not sure what you know about what Coach Beltran did at La Serna and what he has done at BG. First, the current staff, Coach George, Coach Cabellero, Coach Perumean and Coach Verstegen are the lone hold overs from Coach Beltran’s staff. Since he has left what has La Serna accomplished? The loss to La Mirada in the championship game okay, that is with Coach Beltran players and coaches that is not Coach George! Does this staff have a win against a Westlake, a Los Osos, a Rancho Cucamunga, a Vista? No they don’t! Do they have a signature playoff win? A Burbank? A West Covina or Muir? No they don’t! Now, lets focus on Bell Gardens under Coach Beltran, Bell Gardens had not won a playoff game since 2003, they did his third year (2018) they had not won the Almont League since 2012. Bell Gardens won a league championship last year (his third year). I am not saying Coach Beltran is a “guru” or a “genius” but the man can build programs and take them to where they haven’t been in a while! La Serna is under achieving under this coaching staff and plays NO ONE but you all keep worshiping at the alter of La Serna and Coach George! When they lose in the Quarterfinals to a team they either should beat or had a two touchdown lead over (St. Paul) you all can come up with another excuse for the Coach George and what has become his program!

Andrew B was good and had size back when he was the QB. Beltran has been gone for awhile and took his staff. Not sure how many stayed. You can’t give him credit for what they are doing now. He’s been at BG for awhile and has not turned that program around but he might. Any word on the lower levels? any losses?

    Rise of the Titans,
Believe it or not, In the early 70’s, the Pioneer Titans actually went a few rounds deep in what would have been Todays Division 1 playoffs, back then it was Division 4A. They were 10 and 0 in the old Whitmont league, and went into playoffs. They were eliminated in either the quarter or semi finals by Lakewood in a close game. Lakewood went on to the CIF Championship game and took Bishop Amat into over time where Amat won by a score of 18 to 17. That was the year Amat had Pat Haden at QB and John McKay at receiver. Both of those guys went on to USC and then played pro Ball, Pat Haden went to the Rams and McKay to the Boston Patriots. Pioneer has been terrible for such a long time that It’s hard to imagine they once were competitive in the highest division for a few years.

South El Monte hasn’t been the same since the head coach fired some key dudes. the main being Offensive line Coach Mike Mooney. Under Mooney, the Line play was pretty damn good. We all know about the runningback but, the key to it all was the toughness and execution of the biggies! As for kids missing practice, this week for whatever reason was weird several key football players were noticeably absent for more than 1 practice. One very key player was ditching practice to hang with his GF! There used to be several coaches that would hold the athletes accountable, now its different. Coaches fighting one and other last year and new coaches this year are more friends than mentors. Its hard to watch sometimes. I always thought Gallardo was an old school disciplinarian but im not so sure anymore. This week has been better so im thinking we will rebound and beat Rosemead. If we lose we could be in a battle with MT View for last place. pressure is on this team seniors need to step up more especially the Coaching staff. if players are not interested then move on. you cant build a program when youre players are not committed. Oh and BTW I want the navy helmets with gold wings back.

El Monte beats Aroyo this week. Arroyo is no longer the bully of the league and theyre doing what bullies who get punched in the face usually do…fold. Arroyo finishes no better than third place. If we can get act straightened out we bury those roaches.

Heard SEM took the week easy because it was “just Gabby”. Now they’re looking at a 3-7 season because I only see them beating Mountain View now. I won’t be surprised if MV scores maybe three more touchdowns this season. I seen their qb play twice this year and he made the Arroyo qb look good. Rosemead’s one two punch is good, real good. Just behind Booth and Cueva, they’ll finish up second I think. Arroyo will come in third murder both Eagles teams.

Montebello played a good non league but they just got over BG. Don’t see how that helps them get ready for the playoffs just like every other year first or second round call it another year …. good bye

  29. October 8, 2019 - 9:53 pm | Permalink

    @friday knights
SEM couldn’t get off the field. They failed to finish drives and couldn’t force gabby to punt. Also heard through the grape vine that multiple Eagles players were no shows at practice all week. Also several key players are flirting with ineligibility. Theyre RB Giordano was one of the no shows. And wasn’t supposed to play in the game. But with the game being so close they allowed to play in the second half. Horrible lesson for the sophomore.
Rosemead at least punched back vs EM and could be a huge problem for SEM.

Taking nothing away from Gabrielino who won the game SEM didn’t blow it they got beat. Gabrielino might not win league but they’re gonna play tough vs all opponents. Making me re-evaluate where I think teams will finish. I’m thinking Rosemead might run the table finish second with Gabrielino coming in third. Then again Arroyo will have something to say about that. Hmmm who knows.

Long-time fans of Del Rio football remember that La Serna football started its meteoric rise under the prodding of Andrew Buenrostro, the QB before Palmer. This kid was truly a coach on the field, a real spark plug for his team and the program at large. Buenrostro brought a little-appreciated ability to the proceedings: salesmanship. He sold the existing players on his vision, and thereby encouraged other kids to be part of the fun.

Simply put, there ought to be a statue of Andrew Buenrostro erected on the La Serna campus.
