(Crescent City) – Davon Booth scored four touchdowns to lead El Monte to a 32-7 win over Del Norte to win the Division 5-AA State championship Saturday night in Crescent City. The Lions got rolling early on a 52-yard touchdown run by Booth on the second play of the game, led 18-0 at the half and never looked back.
Details and game story to be posted soon.
Getting better next year goes for EM too. Without Booth they have a difficult choice. Recruit a new feature back or build from within. Is there any underclassmen at EM that can run the rock? They had little success year one without Booth. It’ll be interesting to see what happens but for now enjoy the parade and the success. Worry about next year, next year.
@Sportsdad agreed, Booth is the only out of district player, Reyes and Montoya are born and raised El Monte kids, so how embarrassing is it for all these people to complain about one kid. Stop already people 16-0 is hard to do in any division just enjoy the ride and get better next year.
Thanks. 16-0 in SGV history books forever. No one will ever remember you.
God Bless Trump.
Why does everyone point out that El Monte has a couple out of district kids? 90% of you are Arroyo homers. Almost all of the private schools players are from out of district. I personally know someones whose kid plays for Arroyo that doesn’t live in El Monte and I’m sure he’s not the only one. Heck my kids went to school close to my job which was 30 miles from our home. Stop trying to rain on a huge accomplishment it’s a team game and that’s a damn good El Monte team and I emphasize Team
That wasn’t meant to be a “hater” comment but hey let’s go. I don’t care about president idiot so I’ll let that one pass. I definitely don’t care about SJB or MD. That’s another planet. The MVL is different. Period. I am 100% happy for those kids. EM kids have never had this much positive afternoon. It’s something they will cherish forever and it could not have happened to better kids. I take what the coach does and says with a grain of salt.
@anonymous… WOW, it is amazing how you haters keep crying about transfer. Your team must be bad this year that you guys have nothing to do but to crying about other team. Why dont you guys go cry about Mater Dei, St John Bosco, or other D1 school that get transfer every year. Just shut up and enjoy the ride like everyone else in SGV does. This is a special moments for the community and the kids that work hard. Dont take it away from them. #Lionsnation.
@Anonymous imagine Trump was not the president things would be better
Easy guy, no one wants to roll with a D12 team. Enjoy the JV win
Imagine if all kids were forced to go to the school to which they belonged! That would be fun.
That’s funny seeing as your best player is a transfer from outside of El Monte and without him there is no state championship.
Can everyone quit d riding, y’all didn’t ride with El Monte all year and shouldn’t try to ride with em now, especially if you aren’t willing to send your kids there but live in their attendance area.
Defense steps up again, #12 #32 #2 came up with some key hits and stops when Del Norte was driving
@Go Stags there always has to be a moron who says stupid thing
Congratulations
El Monte Lions 2019 State Champions…. Thank you for representing the San Gabriel Valley!
You’ll see
Well done El Monte Lions. Return safely and enjoy your monumental achievement.
@Anonymous – What will they do next year without a couple of rare talents and (who knows) a new coach? Probably they won’t be as good. So what? Does that diminish this season’s accomplishments? Should El Monte fans enjoy things less knowing that they’re not going to reload a la Mater Dei or Bosco? Try not to be stupid.
Congratulations Lion’s For a Great Season. From The Cathedral Phantoms.
Congratulations to the El Monte Lions on their spectacular season! 16-0, what an accomplishment!
Congratulation to El Monte football team for winning the state championship but what are they going to have next year when booth is gone and the other running back is gone and I heard the head coach is going to leave to
Congratulations El Monte! To play so well and bring home a State title is a testament to the coaches keeping everyone focused and the players executing a game plan. A brutal bus ride could not detour you from your goal. Your entire team should be so proud!
That’s going to be a sweet ride home. Congratulations to the team, the school, and the city.
Viva las Monte
Ehh.
Congrats coach c, couldn’t have happened to a more deserving man

State champion El Monte Lions. Let that simmer on your stove.
Those 700 miles on the bus will be a lot of fun now. What a great journey for these young men. Congrats to everyone who played some part in making this possible.
