Salazar Named Head Coach at Bell Gardens

(Bell Gardens) – Long time area assistant coach Victor Salazar has been named the new head football coach at Bell Gardens he confirmed Wednesday.

Clay Johnston, the former head coach at LA Marshall was named the successor to Margarito Beltran last February but that didn’t work out and the Lancers turned to Salazar. Beltran resigned in November after four years.

Last year Salazar was the defensive coordinator at Cantwell Sacred Heart and prior to that he spent four years on Bell Gardens’ staff including three under Beltran. Salazar also spent many years as an assistant on the Schurr coaching staff.

“I’m super excited. It’s something I’ve always wanted. I’ve been an assistant behind some great coaches and I feel it’s time for me to lead a team on the field.” Salazar said.

Bell Gardens went 4-6 overall last year, (third in the Almont League) and missed the playoffs.

    From T. Peterson: A lot of things happened. Covid-19, season postponed, can’t practice, Covid, players can’t work out, did I mention Covid?

    What happened to Clay Johnson? What didn’t work out?

    It’s a good decision. Clay Johnston was a fraud. Glad they moved on before they actually put pads on for the LA Marshall guy. Heard he alienated many before COVID19 even hit.

    This is a long time coming for Coach Salazar. He’s coached several of my son’s and has always done so with dedication and great pride. The Lancers are lucky to have him. Good luck Coach Salazar.
