Relievers Victor Gonzalez and Blake Treinen made Dodger manager Dave Roberts look like a genius last night, and the Dodgers were tenacious in a hard-fought victory which followed their ninth-inning meltdown in Game 4.
I would’ve allowed Dustin May to pitch to at least one more batter in the bottom of the eighth, but Gonzalez got two fly-ball outs to end the inning and preserve the Dodgers’ 4-2 lead.
Closer Kenley Jansen, who blew the save in Game 4, has been demoted at least for the time being, with Treinen recording the save for L.A.
I’m pleased that Roberts is showing some faith in Tony Gonsolin by giving him the start in Game 6 tomorrow night. Gonsolin performed capably as a starting pitcher for much of the regular season, and I believe he deserves the opportunity to pitch the Dodgers to a Series-clinching victory.
I think that having another “bullpen game,” as Roberts chose to do in Game 2 against the Rays, would’ve been a big mistake.
The Dodgers have Walker Buehler ready to pitch in a Game 7 should they lose tomorrow night. Buehler dominated Tampa Bay in Game 3 of the Series.

Best of luck to Coach Fregoso at Fullerton High; it was good to have him on the football staff at Alhambra in 2019.
