Breaking News: Laski Resigns at Gabrielino

By Corey Kowk

(San Gabriel) – After a seven year tour of duty that raised a struggling program from baseball’s cellar into prominence, Joe Laski has stepped down as the varsity head coach at Gabrielino. The Eagles won their fourth straight Mission Valley League title in Laski’s final year.

Prior to his arrival at GHS, Laski served stints with various quality programs around the Southland. He began his coaching career as a JV assistant with current Citrus College associate coach Bill Viverto at Whittier High School before joining the freshman staff at Los Alamitos in 2003. That staff included current head coaches – Mark Claybough (Los Alamitos), Cameron Chinn (Paramount), and Toby Hess (Long Beach Poly).

A search for his replacement is underway. His coaching staff for this season included assistants Artie Casas (Workman), former El Monte Lion Danny Meza, Gabrielino alumnus and JV head coach Matt Izumida, and freshman coach Derek Moore (Santa Monica).
