(Pico Rivera) – El Rancho quarterback Elijah Mitchell sliced up the Norwalk defense for four touchdown passes in the Dons 34-7 victory Friday night over the Lancers at Don Memorial Stadium.
The night started off rough for both teams as the Dons had a punt on their first possession and then the teams exchanged fumbles.
On the Dons third possession of the game Mitchell got them down field and running back Anthony Bonilla finished it off with a 16-yard touchdown run.
After another Norwalk fumble and punts from both teams, El Rancho drove down field and Mitchell hit Dylan Dominguez to put the Dons up 14-0.
The Lancers double wing offense pounded the ball down field and running back David Herrera capped it off with a two yard dive making it 14-7 with just a few seconds remaining in the half.
That’s all the time Mitchell needed with three seconds left as he found Dominguez again this time for 53-yards to paydirt making the score 21-7 at halftime.
Norwalk got the ball first the second half and ran five minutes off the clock but couldn’t pound it into the end zone turning it over on downs inside its own 20-yard line.
Mitchell took advantage of the turnover and found Dominguez for the third time in the game.
The Lancers turned the ball over again with a fumble and Mitchell again made them pay with a 30-yard touchdown – this time to Eliseo Bojorquez making it 34-7.
Norwalk got the ball again but turned it over on downs.
Mitchell who finished 14 of 19 for 268-yards and four touchdowns said after the game “We’re not to be taken lightly”. The Dons are now 6-0.
Linebacker Angel Diaz, who was all over the field for El Rancho, said “League is a revenge tour”.
Dominguez finished with three catches for 67-yards and three scores, Bojorquez had three receptions for 91-yards and a score.
Norwalk’s offense was led by Herrera who had 123-yards on the ground on 25-carries but also had two lost fumbles. Fellow running back Jonathan Goodloe had 20-carries for 72-yards.
El Rancho will stay home and open league against Cal next week while Norwalk will go home and host Bellflower.
Idiot has made the most truthful statement on this thread.
@Elrancho you are correct a $40k bill. SP will destroy ER be careful what you wish for…
Lmao 🤣
Y’all know who I am , but I can’t tell all them haters apart , just like real life …
Y’all need to stop with the “Anonymous” (I’m hiding my identity bc I’m to afraid to live up to my Whoof whoof !) 😂
Del Río League – WE ARE HERE 💥
Go El Rancho ! Big game this week vs Cal can’t wait !
Do you realize that maybe 1% of HS athletes ever go on to play football after HS, to try to single out a school like ER for that is idiotic, most of the schools in the area suffer the same fate, when our latino kids start running 4.5 40s and measure 6’5 290 maybe things can change, for now go where you will have the best HS experience sports, academic, social and if you’re good enough you’ll get to play somewhere after HS.
St. Paul sells these Pico kids the world and gives them nothing but a receipt for that $40k tuition.
Relevant enough where the Mvs has covered us almost every game and relevant enough where you take the time out of your day to find us on a random website and comment about us.
A hmm @@Ha Ha, when was the last time Cal was in the playoffs, 4, 5 years ago? HA HA HA!
Not sure how many but the reality is ER has terrific local athletes that are loyal to St.Paul. That is where their grandfathers and fathers went and that is where they are going. That said St Paul is now recruiting a lot of players out of the area like Amat does so if a Pico kid wants playing time they are coming back to El Rancho in dribs and drabs because they see whats going on at home. Look for a St. Paul- El Rancho game next year a natural rivalry.
Haha love it ER thinks they’re relevant. Why would anyone want to play for the ranch? You play there that’s the last time you play football. Bunch of clown fans. I saw the cal preps and they weren’t kidding. Soft teams is an understatement. You keep thinking your good. GO Cal
@ER, no offence taken, I merely meant that this ER team takes one game at a time with the ultimate goal of going to the playoffs and winning CIF. I’m not saying they will win it all just that it is their mindset.
Not really, ER has a couple of transfers who are making an impact now, Elijah Mitchell from SP and Jerahmy Fuentes from Schurr, granted both are local kids with local ties though. In 2019 it was Brett Yatco, 2018 Ryan Santa Maria. Primarily ER has been built up with kids who have been in the program for 4 years and have simply gotten developed and learned this system, certain things are starting to happen that will make ER a far more attractive place, but we gotta stay tuned for that.
It’s cause nobody wants to transfer there. A lot of times a kid will transfer because a program is winning and it’s close. So you’re saying if a La Serna kid said F this ER perfect and I wanna go there next year you’re not gonna let him on the football team?
It’s always about playoffs, but as Medrano told his boys, you’re only guaranteed 4 more games. If you want more go get it on Friday night, can’t have playoffs without winning in league.
No offense ER Pop but starting at day one it’s always about the playoffs. This ain’t T-ball anymore. ER had not won a playoff game since the last time Medrano played for them 20 years ago. Since he took over in his 4 seasons not counting spring 2021 we have played in 7 playoff games winning 4 of them. Were spoiled again. Go Dons!!
Sheesh, this ER team is really in your head living rent free. Now you’re a Stat guy? Funny how ya can’t stop posting how bad they are. Last time I checked 6-0 is not bad. No matter who you play. Numbers stay in the books games are played on the field.
Playoffs?! Playoffs?! Who the heck is talking about playoffs? They’ve yet to play a league game and you’re talking about playoffs, gees. One game at a time. They are just looking to the next week’s opponent. That’s it and doing it without D1 players or recruited players. Playing with homegrown talent. Playoffs ha ha ha
@Del Rio Watcher, the “who are those guys” players are what high school football should be about. Loading up with transfers or out of district kids is weak if you ask me. Do you think the Mater Dei’s and Bosco’s of the world would be that good if they only had to play with Santa Ana and Bellflower kids. The coaches wouldn’t be so thought of as great also. Warren is a prime example. How many of their players ever even been to Downey before this year. La Serna the same but on lesser degree and not so successfully. Giving props the El Rancho. And not even a Dons fan. Guess I’m just pulling for the “who are those guys”. And spare the sermon about that’s how high school football is now.
Why do La Serna folks keep popping up in ER stories. Trolling away…. Go write in your own story comment section. Oh you don’t have any? Too bad. Better go tell your mommy. By the way I read that the team you played was missing half it’s key players for covid and discipline issues. But still a nice W. Maybe Tim team will give you some ink if you cry louder.
The Dons are moving themselves up to a Division they can’t possibly compete in. If the playoff brackets were decided today they would play La Habra, Charter Oak, or Muir in the 1st round. Maybe even St.Paul or St. Francis. A couple of losses in league will give them a better playoff outcome. The reward for a great season by a little team is getting pounded in the first round. All these type of teams are loaded up the ying yang with D1 players. ER has none. They are full of “who are those guys?” type players.
Impressive? What have you been smoking ? All of their opponents have negative % on Cal preps. SMH.
Impressive non league victories but can they handle league play? We shall see.
So proud of these boys. They work so hard and they just go out there and get the job done. Such a humbled group of young men. Good job and keep it up
