Monrovia Rolls Through San Marino, 63-13

(San Marino) – The Monrovia Wildcats continued their winning ways Friday evening, blasting the host San Marino Titans, 63-13, in what proved to be another in the series of dominant performances that have been turned in by the Wildcats during their 2021 campaign.

Monrovia opened the scoring on a 21-yard run by Marcel Jones. The extra point was successfully converted by Bryan Cote, making the score 7-0, with 10:06 remaining in the opening period. The Wildcats added to their score, courtesy of great special teams play, when Carlos Hernandez returned a San Marino punt 79 yards for touchdown. Another successful Cote PAT made the score 14-0 with 7:44 remaining in the opening quarter. The Wildcats scored again in the period, when Issac Hernandez found the end zone on a 20-yard TD rush. A third successful Cote kick made the score 21-0 at the end of the first.

San Marino opened the scoring in the second quarter, when quarterback Niko Mavridis found running back Ryder Yoshitake for a 6-yard touchdown connection. Mavridis added the PAT, making the score 21-7, Monrovia, with 9:19 remaining in the opening half. The rest of the quarter belonged to Monrovia, as the Wildcats added four more scores before the half came to a close. The first came when Hernandez scored for the second time of the evening on an 8-yard run.

The second score of the quarter was provided by Noah Rodriguez, who connected with Carlos Hernandez for a 25-yard catch and run. The third score was supplied by a fine defensive effort by defensive end Josh Barron, who returned a San Marino fumble 24 yards for a score. The final touchdown of the period was provided by the aforementioned tandem of Rodriguez to Hernandez, who hooked up for a second time, scoring on a 35-yard completion. Four more successful Cote PAT’s made the score 49-7, Wildcats, as the opening half came to a close.

The third quarter provided more of the same, as Monrovia added two more scores. The first came as Jones found pay dirt for his second touchdown of the evening. The second score was again provided by Rodriguez and Hernandez, who connected for their third score of the night…a 53-yard connection. Two additional Cote PAT’s made the score 63-7 as the third quarter ended.

Ian Park, who scored on a 3-yard TD run, provided San Marino’s second score of the evening. The extra point was unsuccessful, making the final score 63-13.

Monrovia’s next game will be on Friday night when the Wildcats will travel to Temple City to play the Rams. San Marino’s next challenge, also Friday night is also a road affair, as the Titans travel to South Pasadena to battle the Tigers. Kickoff for both contests is schedule for 7:00 p.m.
