Saints More Than Conquerors

Shawn D’Amato led all rushers with 135-yards

By Duane Barker

(Hacienda Heights) In usual fashion, the San Dimas Saints on the legs of Shawn D’Amato and Jesse Samec ran their way to a 21-13 victory over the Los Altos Conquerors Friday night at Los Altos High School.

D’Amato and Samec combined for 250 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. 135 on 21 carries for D’amato and 115 on 18 carries for Samec with each finding paydirt once.

The Conquerors got the ball to start the game but after five plays were forced to punt.

Starting on their own 36, the Saints marched the 64-yards on 10 plays with Samec capping the drive on a one yard plunge. Mathias Uribe added the extra point and with 3:32 left in the first, San Dimas had a 7-0 advantage.

Just a few minutes later the Saints were on the board again when a fumble by Andrew Aranda was scooped up by Julian Vigil at his own 40 and outraced Los Altos 60-yards to the endzone and the score. Uribe again added the extra point and with 1:15 remaining in the opening frame the score was 14-0 San Dimas.

Midway through the second quarter the Saints extended their lead to 21-0 this time D’Amato getting his number called on a 9-yard run.

The score would remain at 21-0 as the teams headed to the locker rooms at the break.

David Titone-Perez was one of the bright spots for Los Altos.

Los Altos got on the board in the third when their defense forced a Samec fumble which they recovered on the San Dimas 20.

The Saint defense was stout and forced a fourth and twelve but David Castillo found Gabriel Gonzalez over the middle and in the endzone for the score. Alessandro Mendez-Calderon came on to boot through the extra point to cut into the Saint lead.

On the ensuing drive San Dimas marched down the field eating up yardage and the clock. Their drive stalled however at the Los Altos 23.

On fourth and one Samec was stopped for no gain and San Dimas turned the ball over on downs.

Los Altos wasted little time cuttin the lead to one possession when Castillo found David Titone-Perez who avoided a collision with Saint defenders was off to the races for 82-yards and the score. Mendez-Calderon missed the extra point but the Conquerors were within reach of the Saints with 2:17 left to play.

After the onside kick failed, San Dimas kept the ball in the hands of D’amato and Samec and ran out most of the clock.

Los Altos used their remaining time-outs but San Dimas had too many plays left to run and took a knee with 20 seconds left to end the game.

The Saints will return home and face Northview next Friday while Los Altos will host Diamond Ranch.

I wonder if grandma D’Amato was out there trying to kick people out and stop their seasons.
