(Glendora) – Braydon Brus rushed for 170 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Glendora to a 35-14 win over Downey Friday night at Citrus College in the first round of the CIF Division 3 playoffs.

Brus did everything for the Tartans inclding recovering a Downey fumble late in the game.

Brus got Glendora started early with a 34-yard touchdown run on just the fourth play of the game to give the Tartans a 7-0 lead.

Later in the first quarter Brus caught a line drive punt in stride and turned it into a 48-yard punt return for a touchdown and just like that it was 14-0 with just over four minutes left in the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter after the Vikings were stopped on fourth down Zachary Ford joined the party with a 14-yard touchdown jaunt to finish a short 41-yard drive.

The rout appeared to be officially on when five minutes later Brus broke a couple of tackles and raced 25 yards for the score to make it 28-0 with six minutes left in the half.

Downey managed to score with 1:17 left in the first half as Noah Paez hit Isaiah Blair on a 25-yard touchdown pass.

After a scorelsss third quarter, Glendora effectively put it away in the fourth. It was Brus again, who else? Who beat the cornerback to the endzone on a 10-yard touchdown run to cap a 10-play, 59-yard drive with 5:18 left.

With under three minutes remaining Paez found Antonio Ruiz on a screen pass and he went 37 yards for the touchdown for the final score of the night. But it wasn’t nearly enough as the Vikings were left under the Brus.

“I can’t say enough about him,” said Glendora head coach Brnadon Roher. “He’s a just great kid and a great player. I’m really proud of all of these kids. It’s us against everybody else. Nobody thinks we can win Division 3.”

Paez threw for 162 yards for Downey but the Vikings could never really find a groove offensively. The Vikes finshed 8-3 overall.

Glendora, still indefeated 11-0, now advances to the second round as its quest for a title contiunes.
