Bulldogs Fall In the Semi-Finals

Mekhi Fox hauled in seven catches for 99-yards and a touchdown but it wasn’t enough for Pasadena.

(San Bernardino) The Pasadena Bulldogs reached the end of their CIF Divsion VII playoff road Friday night with a 31-21 loss to the Aquinas Falcons at Aquinas High School.

The Bulldogs were first to score on the night taking their second possession 71-yards on six plays with Ahmad Jolley breaking free on a 23-yard run up the gut to paydirt. Andres Reyes came on to boot through the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The first quarter came to a close with Pasadena maintaining their 7-0 lead. The second quarter however would belong to Aquinas.

The Falcons put together three unanswered scoring drives, the first coming on a 12-yard pass from Andres Robles to Zachary Mendieta. Alex Martinez missed the extra point but more points were on the way. The drive was a short one set up by a blocked punt that the Falcon’s fell on at the Pasadena 12.

With 2:20 left in the second Aquinas scored again on a seven yard run by Cesar Fernandez to finish off a 69-yard drive. Jusyis Solis punched through the two-point conversion.

The Bulldog defense wrapped up Jusyis Solis on this play but Solis still rushed for 115-yards.

Up 14-7 the Falcons elected not to sit on their lead as time was winding down in the first half. Fernandez got behind the Bulldog defense and Robles found him for a 51-yard touchdown strike. Martinez added the extra point with zeros showing on the clock.

Pasadena came out of the halftime break and on their first drive cut the lead to seven. Mekhi Fox got behind the Falcon defenders and into the endzone on a 30-yard pass from Kaden Taylor.

Aquinas answered the Bulldog score with one of their own marching 85-yards on nine plays with Robles connecting with Fernandez again this time from 40-yards out.

The Bulldogs put together their final scoring drive of the night as time was winding down in the third quarter when Daylon Beasley scored on a 3-yard run with :45 seconds on the clock. 

Aquinas put up their final points of the game with 5:44 left to play on a 33-yard field goal by Angel Pais when their 12-play drive stalled at the Pasadena 16.

The Bulldogs managed a drive that saw them get all the way down to the Falcon eight. Andres Reyes marched out to attempt a 23-yard field goal to cut the lead to seven. His field goal was blocked and recovered by Aquinas at the Falcon three.

All Aquinas needed to do was gain one which they did to put the game away.
