(Whittier) – La Serna wide receiver Jake George has committed to Arizona he announced on Twitter Thursday.
“After a great talk with Coach Kevin Cummings I’m honored to say I’m committing to further my athletic and academic career at the University of Arizona!” George posted on Twitter.
This past season George had 78 catches for 1,209 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Lancers who went 10-3 overall and advanced to the semi finals of the CIF Division 4 playoffs before falling to St. Francis.
I just learned Jake George’s aunt and cousin were on board the helicopter that killed Kobe Bryant. It was the sister and niece of his father and HC Andy George. Very sad. They played though a lot this year.
Craps on kids? One is old enough to vote and the other is an AARP member. Don’t get your panties in a bunch old man.
@?
Don’t be that guy that craps on kids. Be better.
Congratulations Jake on the San Gabriel Valley Co Player of the Year and MVP of the Del Rio!!! Not easy to get those awards as a WR.
We will miss watching you but not coaching against you!!!
Show them what you can do in AZ!! Stay Humble and make us proud!!
Last La Serna guy that was hyped this much was Frankie Football. Who you say?
Kid is very polite and humble. Congrats to him and the program. It would be nice if they could move out of that league. The league is very weak and holds kids down. They need to go back to scrimmaging LH. Those were the days. Them boys would battle but kids were getting hurt.
And soon after we hear about this great PWO opportunity for this kid…UoA goes and flips CA’s Gatorade Player of the Year, Servite’s WR McMillan.
1. Kid is a stud! Probably the best WR in the area.
2. Being a part of a power 5 school is a HUGE accomplishment.
3. I don’t know him personally nor do I know the family thought process. BUT I’m not sure why kids and families are so D-1 or bust that they turn down full rides from FCS and D2 schools just to be a walk on at a power 5 school? I guess if you have the money, go ahead and shoot your shot but most people don’t have the luxury to turn down a free education.
4. Best of luck to the young man.
Not true! The district didn’t want to do it.
There should be a league of La Mirada, La Serna, La Habra.
Congrats to Jake, but if we are talking big boy football I’ll probably gosomewhere where league will actually be a challenge, La Mirada had the balls to go into the SGV League. La Serna wanted no part of that last time it was proposed.
Kid is a straight up stud…! Only playing WR for 3 years. I hope Arizona knows getting this 3⭐️ to take a PWO is huge. George is just as good or better than the other WR’s getting scholarship offers in the area..he deserves the same respect! Good luck kid no matter where you end up!
huge upside to this kid, has only been playing WR these last three years and has put in countless hours during the offseason and during the season. Looks like he was born to play the position! Coaches did a hell of a job with this one and should be an eye opener to the other schools in the league…. go to LS if you want to play some BIG BOY D4 football….
This kid is plain and simple a great captain, great teammate, a total TEAM player and a WINNER!! As a sophomore he moved from the QB position (in which he dominated play as a Freshman) to play WR and the rest his La Serna Football History. During his 3 years on the Varsity LS is 28-4. I’ve Seen plenty of “ballers” in my 45+ years but this kid truly is one of the best I’ve been around!!!
Nice to see a guy from the Whittier area make the big time. Hope this means he’ll also play on Sundays in a few years.
Super proud of this Kid right here. He definitely works his butt off day in and day out. Arizona definitely got themselves a baller !!
