(Baldwin Park) – Ibis Aguilar stepped down as the head football coach at Baldwin Park he confirmed Wednesday.
The Braves went 10-3 last season and advanced the Semi-Finals of the CIF Division 10 playoffs before falling to Muir 28-7.
The Braves were 28-10 overall under Aguilar during his four years at the helm. In 2021 Baldwin Park went 10-0 in the regular season but lost in the first round of the Division 11 playoffs to Riverside Poly 49-22.
The Braves have won the Mt. Baldy League title the last three years after moving over from the Valle Vista after the 2019 campaign.
Baldwin Park will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.
Ibis Aguilar’s official statement:
Need him at Alhambra high
What did you think was going to happen after Ibis fired his assistant coach which is the AD at Baldwin Park. Figured it out? Both those little girls will not be at BP next year. The administration could have figure this out but either they have no back-bone or are incompetent. Now BP goes back to be the wiping boy for Sierra Vista until Jesse wears out his welcome in about two years.
Coach Aguilar and staff come back home to South El Monte where you are needed.
Teachers vs AD! whos got more power!?
AD knocks him out in the fourth round! Why, looks who he has in his corner the principle Lopez!
Where is your Union, did they get smack in the mouth!? …unless he was going to get fired at the end regardless!
They were setting you up Ibis! classic “*Sticky” situation!
*His words to brush a teacher off!
They work like a corporation. Soulless!
Any chance anyone could write a few words and explain and NAME who you are talking about and what association they have with Baldwin Park High or BP football. Other than that SHUT UP you old ladies.
Even though he thanks the administration, former and current principals, for their support, not sure how far that support went when an “on-campus individual” is sabotaging his program. Seems like something’s missing. I get it, when unions are involved there’s a lot of red tape to cut through, but if there’s evidence of malicious intent, Principals and District administration can and should get involved, which may lead to possible suspension, dismissal of said individual.
Typical Baldwin Park, something good is happenning and outsiders come and mess it up…. Ibis the very Lopez that you thanked is the same one that coulve solve the issue! Go Back to where you came from Lopez!
Because the principle there now Lopez is a pushover and lets everyone walk all over him. He is incompetent to lead. Lopez has a track record of messing things up and of getting women pregnent. From Mt. View to Jones he has never been able to hold the position. watch out those that are interested in the position you are in for a treat! I wouldnt be surprised that it was him that trigered everything!
Don’t know any of the details but why wouldn’t the principle and or AD get involved in getting this sole misfit and sidekick to settle down? Obviously this person wasn’t acting in the best interests of the program. Having an opinion is fine but some take it to a different level. From the comments it sounds like they had a good coach and a good person in Aguilar.
He can’t pass background check, so he has to resort to twitter banging.
Who is his Side Kick!?
This Niko Niko guy is an absolute clown show. Wouldn’t be surprised if he actually makes it on staff next season. What a joke
Good luck to him on his next journey.
Now the real show begins as to who will take over and can they replicate what Ibis and his staff achieved. There are some experienced coaches on his staff that could be suitable candidates, but with on campus critics that directly affect the program’s outcome, that may not occur.
Ibis is a quiet guy compared to so many loud mouthed coaches. Coaches like him do not want to engage in social media attacks that are purely vendettas usually from parents and relatives of players. There are plenty of soft landing spots with friendly people if he wants to keep coaching. I know for sure he knows several places to go where his knowledge and easy going manner would be welcomed with open arms and an ice cold beer.
Coach Aguilar’s teams at Baldwin Park won more than 70% of the time and that wasn’t good enough for a few of the people connected to the program there. That’s incredible, and not in a good way, unless there’s more to the story.
Criticism is fine but when it comes from within then that’s a problem. Glad this coach could step away with his head held high.
In a sea of phony retirement statements, Aguilar’s reason for stepping away stands out. The man had the Braves in high gear, but found the grind and the criticism to be unbearable. With the low compensation this occupation entails, I believe a great many coaches exit for similar reasons. It’s refreshing to hear a guy speak the truth….we can only hope it inspires others to be more candid. Best wishes to coach in his new situation.
